From 2019:

WASHINGTON—The U.S. government has developed a specially designed, secret missile for pinpoint airstrikes that kill terrorist leaders with no explosion, drastically reducing damage and minimizing the chances of civilian casualties, multiple current and former U.S. officials said.
Both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon have used the weapon while closely guarding its existence. A modified version of the well-known Hellfire missile, the weapon carries an inert warhead. Instead of exploding, it is designed to plunge more than 100 pounds of metal through the tops of cars and buildings to kill its target without harming individuals and property close by.

Great! Love it! Whatever works.
If we've had this since 2019, I profoundly regret it wasn't used earlier, before we had to "make nice" with terrorists to accomplish our goals.

US Embassy in Afghanistan issues new security alert over 'specific, credible threat'

Due to a "specific, credible threat," the US Embassy in Afghanistan has sent a security alert out to American citizens at Kabul airport warning them to leave the area immediately.

"Due to a specific, credible threat, all U.S. citizens in the vicinity of Kabul airport (HKIA), including the South (Airport Circle) gate, the new Ministry of the Interior, and the gate near the Panjshir Petrol station on the northwest side of the airport, should leave the airport area immediately," the Embassy wrote in a statement posted online.

"U.S. citizens should avoid traveling to the airport and avoid all airport gates at this time," the post added.

Similar alerts were shared on Wednesday and Friday from the Embassy, however the latest alert notes a "specific, credible threat

Guess there are more than one or two "planners"...here's my shocked face :-|

From Lara Seligman, covering the Pentagon for Politico

"BREAKING: US Embassy in Kabul just issued an alert about a “specific, credible threat” to #HKIA. Directed US citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and avoid airport gates. Defense official tells me it’s a suicide vest threat"

No. I was referencing the inconsequentiality of the claims that one or two ISIS planners were taken out (which I doubt), when there are hundreds more.
Got it, thank you. As an American, I appreciate that this has been done, and I understand that it may take a while to hit more targets, especially when we always run a risk of hitting innocent civilians when dealing with terrorists. I'm not aware of anyone credible who has said that there will be no further attempts against ISIS-K.

Two weeks prior to the attack in Kabul, CNN's
@clarissaward
interviewed a senior ISIS-K commander. At that time the commander told Ward the group was laying low and waiting for a time to strike.
As Ward notes, these were "words that turned out to be eerily prophetic.

Not attacking the messenger! :)

BBM This is bugging me. No, the terrorist’s words weren’t “eerily prophetic.” It doesn’t take a psychic detective to predict there is going to be a terror attack when the Senior ISIS-K commander straight up TELLS you there is going to be a terror attack. He wasn’t foretelling events as if by divine inspiration.

@BrowneGareth

Another explosion at Kabul airport. Unsure if this is US forces destroying equipment again.

@ariehkovler

Locals are reporting an explosion in Kabul. Seen photos of the smoke but no other confirmed details yet.
Blast was in the PD15 area but reportedly not close to the airport. From the smoke it doesn't look like it was huge. Could be an attack, a controlled explosion or even an accident.

BREAKING: A Taliban spokesman says a U.S. airstrike targeted a suicide bomber in a vehicle who wanted to strike the Kabul airport.

There were few initial details about the incident, as well as a rocket that struck a neighborhood just northwest of the airport, killing a child. The two strikes initially appeared to be separate incidents, though information on both remained scarce.

Reminded of the moral dilemma regarding the potential of hurting innocents in this film about using a drone (in the shape of a bird) to target enemies from afar.. fwiw.
Eye in the Sky movie review & film summary (2016) | Roger Ebert
''While the prospective targets are Al-Shabaab militants in Nairobi, Kenya, those deciding their fate are scattered across the globe, contemplating their prey via high-in-the-sky surveillance drones hovering above the bad guys’ safe house.''

#UPDATE Only 300 American citizens still in Afghanistan are seeking to leave the country, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday, just days ahead of the US deadline for evacuations

Is Blinken saying how many Americans still in Afghanistan don't want to leave the country? I just wonder how he comes up with 300 who want to leave the country, and how they know that the other Americans don't want to leave the country. Have they even been contacted?

@JenGriffinFNC

US defense official: “Multiple suicide bombers inside the vehicle,” struck by US drone today in Kabul. “Significant explosives in vehicle led to secondary explosions.” Bombers belonged to ISIS-K and were en route to Kabul Airport.
