Is Blinken saying how many Americans still in Afghanistan don't want to leave the country? I just wonder how he comes up with 300 who want to leave the country, and how they know that the other Americans don't want to leave the country. Have they even been contacted?

I honestly don't know but have read the US doesn't know how many Americans are still in Afghanistan. Some registered their arrivals and departures and others didn't. If they say 300 more, you'd think that's all they are aware of. jmo

Taliban makes overtures to India as US airstrike in Kabul hits potential bomber
''New Delhi, August 29rbbm.
The Taliban made overtures to India on a restive Sunday in Kabul which remained the scene of hectic talks.''

''India was mentioned at a media interaction by Taliban senior leader Sher Muhammad Stanekzai who is believed to have met Indian interlocutors earlier in Doha as part of back channel talks.

The Taliban, he said, wished to have good political and economic ties with India, including the air corridor that was operational under the previous regime.''

U.S. announces joint arrangement to continue evacuating Afghan allies past Aug. 31

Of note: National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Face the Nation that the U.S. has "considerable leverage" to "hold the Taliban to its commitments."

  • "The Taliban have communicated to us...that they're allowing for safe passage. We’re not just going to take their word for it," he added.
U.S., 97 other countries announce deal with Taliban to keep evacuating allies after Aug. 31

The next thing we will be hearing is that the Taliban wish to have tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Sure. And since we have allowed them to be in control of what Americans and our allies can do, why stop there? Maybe they'll ask for special access to watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve at Times Square. Or a tour of the White House and monuments in D.C. They may even sweetly offer to provide security. What could go wrong?

I'm a little confused. Americans can't get to the airport now, after repeatedly being told they are free to leave, so what's changing? Can we round the 300 or so Americians in the next day or so and be out of there?

What the Taliban is so communicating does not match their actions, nor the media reports.

Moo....

Just in that kind of a mood where i refer to a song to express a sentiment, in this case.. "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"

Taliban in Afghanistan: How six schoolmates got their friend out of Kabul
''Singapore
| Three times. Three times a group of friends scattered across Europe and Asia sent their former classmate to the airport in Kabul as they tried to pull off what armies of diplomats have struggled to do: find safe passage for an Afghan family that have many reasons to fear the Taliban.

The six friends were already adventurers, choosing to leave their homes and countries to spend their last two years of school at United World College (UWC) in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. That’s where they met Haseen Fatima Amini. Back home, when it became clear earlier this month that the Taliban were advancing across her country, Ms Amini reached out for help''.

''WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States has the capacity to evacuate the approximately 300 U.S. citizens remaining in Afghanistan who want to leave before President Joe Biden's Tuesday deadline, senior Biden administration officials said Sunday, as another U.S. drone strike against suspected Islamic State militants underscored the grave threat in the war's final days.''

''There also are roughly 280 others who have said they are Americans but who have told the State Department they plan to remain in the country or are still undecided. According to the latest totals, about 114,000 people have been evacuated since the Taliban takeover on Aug. 14, including approximately 2,900 on military and coalition flights during the 24 hours ending at 3 a.m. on Sunday.''

I wonder how many of those 280 who “don’t want to leave” are women and children who have been forbidden to leave or mothers who don’t want to leave without their children.

Once the Afgan government is "recognized" again [months or years], the above really will happen.

It is a part of her job to get up in her little heels, put on a bright dress, and do small talk with ex-warlords.

It is all a bit surreal right now.

From what I've heard, the USA handed Afghanistan to the Taliban after 9 years of relying on ally peacekeeping missions with the Afghanistan government.

I think The Queen has too much respect for past and present service men and women to even consider entertaining the taliban even if they have been "recognised."

Biden appears to check his WATCH during ceremony honoring the 13 US troops killed in Kabul attack | Daily Mail Online

President Joe Biden is under fire after appearing to look at his watch just seconds after a salute honoring the return of the 13 US servicemembers killed in Thursday's ISIS-K suicide bombing in Kabul.

The president made the unannounced trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Sunday morning as the caskets of the 13 service members killed in the attack were brought back to the United States.

He stood in silence, his right hand to his chest, as a succession of flag draped transfer coffins were carried past him from a C-17 Globemaster plane.

But during the ceremony, Biden appears to jerk his left arm up and look down at his watch, which sparked backlash from veterans and conservative commentators.

Therein lies the problem; Afghanistan is not the USA's posession to hand to anyone. In Doha, a deal was made with the devil which legitimized the Taliban.

Lesson Learned (lest history repeat itself) - Never negotiate with terrorists. And, when one chooses to do so, perhaps the actual country in question should have a seat and some say at the table lest you deligitimize the the actual national government and forces in the eyes of their enemy the Taliban.

Sorry but that is a bit of piling on. ( not you)
