Is Blinken saying how many Americans still in Afghanistan don't want to leave the country? I just wonder how he comes up with 300 who want to leave the country, and how they know that the other Americans don't want to leave the country. Have they even been contacted?
The next thing we will be hearing is that the Taliban wish to have tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
But first..The next thing we will be hearing is that the Taliban wish to have tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
U.S. announces joint arrangement to continue evacuating Afghan allies past Aug. 31
Of note: National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Face the Nation that the U.S. has "considerable leverage" to "hold the Taliban to its commitments."
U.S., 97 other countries announce deal with Taliban to keep evacuating allies after Aug. 31
- "The Taliban have communicated to us...that they're allowing for safe passage. We’re not just going to take their word for it," he added.
rbbm.I'm a little confused. Americans can't get to the airport now, after repeatedly being told they are free to leave, so what's changing? Can we round the 300 or so Americians in the next day or so and be out of there?
What the Taliban is so communicating does not match their actions, nor the media reports.
Moo....

''WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States has the capacity to evacuate the approximately 300 U.S. citizens remaining in Afghanistan who want to leave before President Joe Biden's Tuesday deadline, senior Biden administration officials said Sunday, as another U.S. drone strike against suspected Islamic State militants underscored the grave threat in the war's final days.''
''There also are roughly 280 others who have said they are Americans but who have told the State Department they plan to remain in the country or are still undecided. According to the latest totals, about 114,000 people have been evacuated since the Taliban takeover on Aug. 14, including approximately 2,900 on military and coalition flights during the 24 hours ending at 3 a.m. on Sunday.''
The next thing we will be hearing is that the Taliban wish to have tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Once the Afgan government is "recognized" again [months or years], the above really will happen.
It is a part of her job to get up in her little heels, put on a bright dress, and do small talk with ex-warlords .
It is all a bit surreal right now.
From what I've heard, the USA handed Afghanistan to the Taliban after 9 years of relying on ally peacekeeping missions with the Afghanistan government.
Biden appears to check his WATCH during ceremony honoring the 13 US troops killed in Kabul attack | Daily Mail Online
President Joe Biden is under fire after appearing to look at his watch just seconds after a salute honoring the return of the 13 US servicemembers killed in Thursday's ISIS-K suicide bombing in Kabul.
The president made the unannounced trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Sunday morning as the caskets of the 13 service members killed in the attack were brought back to the United States.
He stood in silence, his right hand to his chest, as a succession of flag draped transfer coffins were carried past him from a C-17 Globemaster plane.
But during the ceremony, Biden appears to jerk his left arm up and look down at his watch, which sparked backlash from veterans and conservative commentators.
