I want to reiterate that I am not attacking DH-I think we are blessed to have people here that know the family. Thanks to you all for representing them so well to us!!

the language being thrown around here smacks of "divorce" language imo. Marital assets, desertion etc. It makes me feel as if this separation may have been in the works for a while. If you take the totality of the DV incidents, the disappearance, the assertions of removal of community property or blocked access to community property...well it just feels to me like a marriage that was crumbling.

She left behind her DL and took her passport...an unusual choice not to take both, but I am not inside of her head. I think drying up her access to money is certainly a strategy to flush her as well-but I am not certain her funds can be frozen by him easily for this purpose. Undoubtedly LE is watching her accounts to determine what withdrawals might indicate where she might be. This is, again, a far more effective means of locating her.

Only if she signed some of her default rights under HIPAA away ... and most people just cruise right through those disclosures, sign on the dotted line, and go on their way. And HIPAA doesn't allow a physician to talk to anyone about your condition(s) without express authorization - which most people (in my experience from insurance / health care) don't seem to provide.

An excellent perspective Whim, and I thank you for your insight. I am familiar with HIPAA in MP cases somewhat-it is very very likely that the physician would certainly have engaged in a general conversation with DH on the best approach to having Gail return to her home and loved ones with the least amount of psychic stress. There are provisions built in, especially if the treating physician is a psychiatrist or psychologist.

The article states that 3 accounts are in her name, but the husband says they are marital property. And why would the bank notify him that she had changed PIN numbers on her accounts? This does not sound right.
I don't know how the banks there work, but I am pretty sure that the bank considers those accounts her property if they are in her name, and the only reason they would notify him is if they received notice that she was dead and he is named beneficiary.

First, I don't recall seeing anywhere that stated they were her accounts. If I missed that one, I still would not consider an article in the media as certain proof. I have seen so many articles and each says something a tad different. Look at the top of this page and you will see where one says her family encouraged him to report her missing, the next post shows an article that states his did=just for common knowledge, I know that his family is heartbroken and extremely worried about her too.

As for the pin # and notification. My husband and I have several accounts, all in different banks. With 2 of these we have an ATM card. Our ATM cards are identical and we have the same pin. Our debit card also works that way. We were not given an option, it was just that way when we got them. If I suddenly changed it, he would be notified. That's how the banks work here...and we use large banking companies, not small hometown banks.

As for your last statement, no one else can find Gail and I seriously doubt the bank knows anything different. They notified him because he is on the account.

This is the way Signal Mtn. works. There's going to have to be outside pressure to get them off their butts because some parts of the area are concerned about unwanted outside attention that this may bring.

There is no such thing as bad press or bad pressure with a MP case...even if the reporting is slanted to a salacious angle...it undoubtedly brings attention and attention is what is needed, right? ;) Whatever means necessary....

FWIW

I just moved a month ago and I did the whole change of address thing AT THE POST OFFICE. I did not have to show ID and also filled one out for my FIANCEE who was not with me at the time. I just had to sign MY name to his form showing it was I who requested it.

There was a notice sent to the new address AND a notice sent to the OLD one as well. I thought it rather odd at the time and then I got to thinking in the age of Identity theft that maybe it was a good thing. EXCEPT we had to move so quickly (family emergency) that sending the notice to the OLD address was not a good thing for us since we were no longer at that address-AND no it was not forwarded. Luckily we could still go by there and check the mail every few days to check and see if we had any mail- since our postal people seem to have a hard time understanding this whole forwarding thing. So we still got them but what if we moved 15 hours away instead of 15 miles.

If the Husband was creating a cover story for having done something to his wife then he could have filled it out but HE would have had to sign it as having requested it FOR her.

IHTH

O/T and BBM...wow I have never ever heard of this before. Even in my jt account with my DH via BOA, pin numbers were separate. The bank encouraged it. Interesting.

I hit post too quickly Confused-

Is this a statement of fact?

I understand what you mean and everyone handles a crisis in there own way. He could be making calls and working behind the scene to locate Gail.

Do you know if Matt has given them access to the beach house or anything else that LE may need to assist in locating Gail?

My guess would be that Matt has opened every possible avenue to assist the LE.

Totally agree with confused that media reports are not always accurate. They very often are full of error.
but with that said, I think that since that is pretty much all we have to go on, this is where the notion comes from that these were her accounts:

>>He said last Wednesday he received a notice from the Post Office indicating she had entered a change of address form dated April 30. He said he was notified that she had changed her pin number to three bank accounts in her name. He said the accounts contain approximately $420,000.

He said at least two of the accounts totaling over $320,000 "are marital property."<<

I applaud him for protecting his dear children! I am still puzzled at this strong arm tactic to get her to come out of hiding...if she is frightened and confused, why drop a load of bricks on her head and force her out?

He undoubtedly consulted with her physician who was treating her for the depression prior to determining this course.

I don't believe this is really a tactic to get her out of hiding. I think he has been instructed that this is what he needs to do and is following the advice of his attorney. Again, these were police statements and court filings, not a TV interview.

I think she may have killed by someone who knew her well and felt threatened by her actions...why fill out a change of address form if you don't plan on being at that address?

I really appreciate you letting us ask you questions, thanks confused.
Do you have any idea what the kids have said regarding gail and when she dropped them off? I find it strange that there have been no media reports either through court docs or police reports what the children may have seen or what their mom may have told them when she left them that day.

I have not personally seen the bank statements-no. Knowing his family, I do know that would be how they handled things in the past.

thank you confused-you are so patient and kind with us.

Your welcome...I want this to be solved and my friends get some semblance of a normal life back. Be aware that anything I post here is my thoughts and opinons. I have known these people for a long while, but I will concede that no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors. Until this came out, I had no idea that there were marital problems.

I do not know what the kids have said. I will say that I know the kids are being well cared for by people who love and adore them. They are very intelligent kids and I am sure if they know anything, they have told the investigators.

That is what I find so perplexing. The media is reporting just about everything contained in the police reports, yet there is no mention of what the kids had to say when she dropped them off, even if she said nothing. Doesn't make sense. I have followed a lot of cases and not reporting something so core to the case is unusual to say the least.

I have no doubt those kids are going through a nightmare and that they are getting the care and love they need from their family. This is painful for friends and family.Like you, I hope for resolution soon.

Do we have any idea if the children have even been allowed to talk to the police?

Can you compel a child to give a deposition through a subpoena if the legal guardian protests?

I just had a D'oh moment. Where is the info on what she was last wearing? The kids would have HAD to provide that to PD since DH did not see her.
