La Vergne police found more human bones in a wooded area Thursday.

On Wednesday, an officer on patrol found skeletal remains of what appeared to be a young woman, said Lt. Stace Thompson.

The remains are not that of missing woman Nikki Sisounong. She has been missing since Halloween.

Police said the bones appear to have been there for several months. They believe she was murdered.

The bones were sent to the medical examiner's forensic lab for further test and possible identification.

Just to note, La Vergne is where the parents of Sandra Maple live, although her mother recently passed. Sandra & her husband Marvin Maple abducted their two grandchildren, Robert & Christy Baskin, back in 1989 and have not been seen since. I would LOVE to see these people caught. There is a WS thread on this case if anyone is interested.....

Possible Break In La Vergne Murder Mystery

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - Police in La Vergne found a skull and believe they're closing to solving a murder

Detectives have a face to go with this anonymous skull due to forensic science.

A forensic artist at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville sculpted features on the unidentified skull.

The victim is identified as an African-American woman in her mid-30s to 40s. She was about 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Her skull and other remains were found in November in a rural part of Rutherford County.

Police believe someone shot her in the head.

A forensic artist in Knoxville sculpted a woman's face based on a skull sent from the La Vergne Police Department.

A Midstate woman thinks she knows the victim's identity.

Police plan to look into the whereabouts of Evelyn Tate Spaulding.

"There are some similarities, but I'm hoping to God it's not her," said the friend.

Investigators said their first goal is to find out if Spaulding is alive and well. If anyone knows her whereabouts, they should call police.

Police still hope they receive other tips.

Detectives sent the skull to Joanne Hughes, whose facial reconstructions have helped investigators.
"When they told me she was shot in head my question was what kind of shape is the skull in," she said. "Is it in pieces or is it whole?"
Hughes slowly began rebuilding the face using layers of modeling clay.
After about four weeks of work, she finished.
Detectives hope someone recognizes her and helps solve the crime.
"Without the identity of this person, we're pretty much at a dead end because we don't have anybody to work with," said La Vergne Police Chief Ted Boyd. "We don't know where this person comes from, who to talk to, who they're associated with."

Just thought I'd get some opinions about these ladies. There are a bunch of links here, but I figure the more info the better. So, here it is:

Anita Renee Davis (44) is last seen in Decatur, GA on June 1, 2007 at a Pilot Truck stop. Flash forward to LaVergne, TN November 14, 2007. A police officer looking for a missing woman finds skeletal remains. The victim has been shot and stabbed in the head. She has also been bound. They estimate her body had been dumped in the summer of 2007. Age estimate is between 25-49, although in news reports they say 35 and 49.
As a side note: Where the body was found (LaVergne) happens to also have a Pilot Truck stop at it. It also happens to be a pretty straight shot from Decatur.

I've tried and tried to make up a side by side, but I can never get it to work, so here is my not so side by side:

ETA: Doe 94UFTN was ruled out as a match for Anita Renee Davis.

Looks good, but... if ARD was missing all front teeth and had a healed fracture to her leg, those characteristics would probably be reported in the dentals and distinguishing characteristics.

I do think it's worth submitting to check though.

Dentals are on the NAMUS report, but it would appear that almost all her teeth are missing (there are only 3 noted and they are in the back) , but it doesn't say if the rest are gone post mortem, ante mortem or who knows, maybe they just didn't want to fill in the N or A and they are all present.

I thought the same thing about her leg having been broken, but I figure if they didn't fill out the dental chart completely, there is a chance they didn't point out other potential identifyers.

OMG- My side by side worked- now if i can only figure out how i did it.

Spoke with Sgt. Mullins today. Ms. Davis has not been compared or even considered. After looking at her information, he felt she was worth checking into further. The thing that caught his attention (and mine too) is she has a visible browridge. She should be an easy rule out or in with the leg and teeth.
When and if she is ruled out he said he would let me know.
So now to hurry up and wait.....

Case History
The victim was found in a rural part of LaVergne, Tennessee in November 2007.
The woman's wrists and feet were also bound with a green cord, similar to that used on a yard trimmer.

However, Namus says they can't estimate her height or weight and say the remains were partial, all the limbs and hands were not recovered.

She was found by a police officer at opening of atv trail.

She had some teeth missing antemortem plus some fillings.

LaVERGNE, Tenn. -- Officials said some remains found in LaVergne last week are those of a shooting victim.

Police said they aren't sure who she is, but said she was shot in the head.

A police officer found the remains off Hollandale Road. Officials said her body had apparently been there for close to five months.

The mystery surrounding the unidentified woman has recently brought closure to several middle Tennessee families.

For example, Evelyn Tate's loved ones thought she was the slain woman. A search by the LaVergne police found Tate was living in Atlanta.

Police said they've been able to solve several local missing person cases while investigating this homicide.

"It did make us feel good we was able to help those citizens that thought it was a family member, which we actually found live and well just in different parts of other states," said Mullen.

In the meantime, Jane Doe is still waiting for her identity.

My bad for not updating this one, she was indeed ruled out. Just so everyone knows, there are times I can't update cases (this wasn't one of them) because of confidentiality clauses from LE.

Even with rule outs, I won't take a chance unless I have explicit permission from LE to share information. Although it seems like it wouldn't hurt LE to release exclusions, I suppose there are situations where they might not want someone to know they're considering someone as possiby dead- it might tip off a suspect of something.

Anyhow, I always encourage LE to use NamUs. In this case though, the update just slipped by me.
