Former NBA Great Lorenzen Wright

In the last few weeks, the Amber alerts on young girls has been astonishingly high. Teenage girls down to young girls barely toddler age often make the news as Amber Alerts are issued. When the missing person is an adult, a former NBA great for that matter like Lorenzen Wright, the news is just down right unnerving.

"It's like the world just opened up and he fell in, " Deborah Marion is talking about her son, Lorenzen Wright.

The last time anyone in her family saw the, 6-11, former NBA player was Sunday night. Marion says Wright was at his ex-wife's home in Collierville between 10 and 11, when the ex woke up he was gone their cars still in the driveway.

Reports are that Wright foreclosed on his house not long ago. He also recently divorced, and lost a child to SIDS not that long ago.

My hope is that he's taking a break to clear his mind and decided not to tell anyone about it. However, I can't shake the feeling it's worse.

Some family members think he may be the victim of foul play. But Herb Wright, Lorenzen's Dad-- told us: "I don't think there's any legitimacy to this. I'm refusing to concede that he's missing at this time."

But others from the Lorenzen camp are worried-- including his old high school coach, Fred Horton, who said: "Obviously I'm concerned about his well being. Lorenzen is like a son of mine, but I have no idea whether there was foul play."

Heuberger says his department is following all leads and continuing to work closely with the family, but adds: "A lot depends on the individual himself...whether or not he wants to be found."

AJC article has more details:

According to police, Wright flew to Atlanta to his house in Smyrna, where a friend then picked him up to drive him to his ex-wife's house in Collierville.

"He went to check on his kids," Lt. Norm Dixon of the Collierville police said.

Wright apparently left while his ex-wife was asleep -- at 2 a.m. Police assume he was picked up by someone, but his ex-wife said she has no idea who he could have left with. Dixon said the ex-wife's neighborhood was "very safe and affluent."

Police say that was the last time Wright was seen. But Savia Archie, Wright's sister, told the Memphis Commercial Appeal he was last seen the following morning at a Memphis barbershop.

It also says he has had serious financial problems, losing two different million dollar homes to repossession recently. Lorenzen is 7 feet tall so he is very noticeable.

Collierville detectives worked through the weekend chasing tips about missing former basketball player Lorenzen Wright, but thus far the department is dealing with the disappearance only as a missing person case.

Police Chief Larry Goodwin said authorities have “nothing significant to tell us otherwise.”

Family Suspects Foul Play

The family of former University of Memphis and NBA basketball player Lorenzen Wright is pleading for his safe return after they say he mysteriously vanished a week ago.

Wright's mother, Debora Marion, told MyFoxMemphis.com the last time the family heard from her son was July 18, when he was visiting his children at his ex-wife’s house.

"She said she had laid down and woke up and he was gone in her van. Then she went back and laid down again. When she woke up again her van was back but he was gone," Marion said.

The last call posted on Wright’s phone record was made to his daughter that night, MyFoxMemphis.com reported.

Wright's sister, Adriane Harris, said Wright was last seen at a Memphis barbershop on July 19, when he had his hair cut.

The family filed a missing persons report with police, who said they don't suspect foul play.

Marion and Harris aren't ruling it out.

"If he wanted to be alone, he would have talked to someone in the family that I need it," Marion told MyFoxMemphis.com. "He has done this before, he would say I need a break and we understand that he needs a break and we wouldn't be worried because he told us he needed a break. But this time he just disappeared."
