As a young litigator, I was advised by some of the veteran attorneys to try to look inattentive and/or mildly distracted when the "other side" is presenting evidence, but pay respectful attention when my own side was. It's a subtle way of sending a message to the jury that, "you can just ignore what the other side has to say -- it's not really important at all, see? -- but make sure you listen carefully to ours!"

It's possible JA's attorneys have coached her to do the same.

Agree! And for $250-300 per hour, a DP case with a brutal, tragic, horrendous murder, I would expect a little more professionalism, no matter which side you're the witness for!
