I thought this important enough to repost:

"Joe Wheeler Dixon, PhD, JD

Battered woman syndrome (BWS) was first proposed in the 1970's and was based solely upon the clinical observations of a single clinician, Dr. Lenore Walker. After she coined the term and published her hypotheses the concept quickly caught on. BWS became a popular way to justify criminal conduct of women who were charged with the murder of their husband. However, while the idea initially enjoyed success in some clinical circles and several legal jurisdictions, BWS was never empirically validated through scientific research as a bona fide condition, and therefore it has not enjoyed widespread support by psychologists who practice clinical and forensic psychology. For those women who are indeed chronically battered, they may more reliably and more correctly be diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
snip
to date there is insufficient empirical evidence to show that BWS per se meets the rigorous diagnostic criteria of psychology or psychiatry for a mental disorder. For instance, there is no reliable means to differentiate those women who merely claim a history of battering from those who have actually been battered.
snip
Doctors typically rely upon the patient's first party self-report when diagnosing clinical conditions. In the case of BWS, when some women are seeking to avoid criminal responsibility, it is extremely unwise for a doctor to reach what amounts to a legal conclusion of battering based solely upon the presenting complaints and history of one person. It would be JUANderful if JM would ask DD if she is familiar w/ THIS article, or find a way to bring these conclusions up. That among the community of her peers, the conventional wisdom regarding legal conclusions should not rely on the self-reporting of the defendant re: BWS.

Ok so I missed what happpened today. Was there anything interesting other then DT droning on about the experts CV? Is it worth watching the you tube of this mornings testimony?

If you are in the mood for a nap I would say yes. It was sleep inducing for me.

During the lunch recess, I hope you'll enjoy this familiar song from A Chorus Line with modifications by me :)

(Juan) singular sensation, every little step (he) takes
(Juan) thrilling combination, every move that (he) makes
(Juan) smile and suddenly nobody else will do
You know you'll never be lonely with you know who.

(Juan) moment in (his) presence, and you can forget the rest
For the (guy) is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give (him) your attention
Do I really have to mention (he's) the (Juan).

(He) walks into a room and you know (he's)
uncommonly rare, very unique,
peritpatetic, poetic, and chic
(He) walks into a room and you know from (his)
maddening poise, effortless whirl
(He's) a special guy, strolling

Can't help all of (his) qualities extolling
Loaded with charisma
Jauntily, sauntering, ambling, shambler
(Juan) and you know you must
Shuffle along, join the parade
(He's) the quintessential of making the grade
This is whatcha call trav'ling.

Oh, strut your stuff!
Can't get enough!
Ooh! Sigh. Give (him) your attention
Do I really have to mention
He's the (Juan)!

I think it is worth watching... esp whatever is going on with Arias. She looks very strange today.:twocents:

Gal is slipping down, down, down into depression. Maybe on the coaching of the mitigation specialist. How cynical am I? :blushing:
Whatever it is, she's illustrating the Dx Dr. D gave her IMO.

Casey made the obviously smarter choice of not testifying and not giving as many statements to the police, but I wonder how she would have done if she would have been cross examined.

Baez chose to represent Casey and I think they developed some sort of affectionate bond for each other. KC chose to listen to Baez for the most part. I must say she wouldn't have been half as bad as JA on the stand but then their pathetic case wasn't half as bad as this one.

she sure seemed to be trying to compare the two which is laughable! ALV was biased, did no testing, and is not a PHD.

Yeah, but what Wilmott is trying to establish is that ALV is a bona fide DV expert and DD is not. as if it matters!

But I also thought JW was trying to get DD to refer to ALV as a source of expertise. That wasn't going to happen!

The reason that JA doesn't look well in court today is probably because the reality of the situation is finally starting to hit her. She looks as if she (finally) had an epiphany that she is going to be held accountable convicted of the highest degree. Oh snap. Probably no cocky smart @ss tweets going out tonight (for JA).

I agree (x2). lol

Not empirically validated. Enough said. Someone with an active imagination came up with a theory which fit certain situations and tried to make it more than it was. I suppose the idiocy of presenting it as validated flies over willmott's head.

Excellent observation - be nice if Juan could illicit your response for the jury!

Whew! Just got caught up here.... JW hasn't changed her approach at all...I feel badly, it's like having a hunk of toilet paper hanging on the bottom of your heel, and no one tells you...just lets you wander around the cocktail party....all sophisticated and stuff....why doesn't Nurmi give her a lil heads up that this isn't quite going as well as she might think......

:floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: Great analogy. But, somehow I don't feel badly watching JW embarrass herself. :blushing:

I just re-watched the end of today's morning session -- and Jodi did NOT stand up when the jury filed out the courtroom for lunch !

WTH ?

Anyway ... her mit spec lady walked over to her and started talking to her, and Jodi was still sitting down ...

Unfortunately, the camera went off ...

Any thoughts ?

:moo:

Speaking of tweets. . .did anyone see Donavan in the gallery today? I didn't see her with the family.

Thread #149 on Trial Day 49.

Let me guess, JW and LKN are both 49.

Something's up here.

Nursebeeme :bee:, are you 49?

I think she only gets to shower every so often....the last day ...before shower...she starts to look kinda crusty and knows it.

Wonder if they'll return after lunch. JA looks seriously wonked out. They need to lower her dosage of whatever she's taking.

JW, early lunch Maybe needs to go and do some research re: TSI-1 versus TSI-2 updated version.
I wonder if JW has an advisor for her questions and answers.

It is really sad that JA did not take advantage of her IQ by bettering her life instead of destroying so many lives.
