The photo of the suspect has been changed after my last post by the Turkish Authorities I have asked for the posts with previous photo be deleted. Apologies

This is even more confusing. There is a man on the internet who says that he is not the suspect, he only came to the Police station to testify. Then a picture of a similar man is published, he looks younger than the first man and does not have the beauty spots, and according to the authorities that would be the suspect.
And now he is not either?

Then the attacker would have been dressed as Santa, or perhaps he was a policeman in disguise, or he changed his clothes duroing the attack. For whatever reason.
BTW Turkish PM Yildirim has denied that the attacker was dressed as Santa, he says this is not true.

So I guess these Santa videos have nothing to do with the attack?
Makes one wonder where they came from.

So do they know who he is? I read he was part of a terrorist group and was specific and how would they know that if they didn't know who he was? This is so confusing.

I
STANBUL — When a lone gunman murdered dozens of New Year’s revelers early Sunday, he targeted a symbol of a cosmopolitan Istanbul that is increasingly under threat: a dazzling nightclub where people from around the world could party together, free from the mayhem and violence gripping the region.

It was there, at the Reina nightclub on the Bosporus — a hot spot for soap opera stars and professional athletes, Turks and well-heeled tourists — that those hoping to move past a particularly troubled year died together.
The assault was the second in two weeks in Turkey, and it further exposed the fault lines in a country that is increasingly tearing apart amid terrorist attacks and political instability.

With such a harrowing year coming to a close, many Turks were eager for New Year’s Eve, as if turning the page on the calendar might signal a fresh start.

In Istanbul, where a video on social media before the shooting showed well-dressed partyers at Reina ringing in the new year with sparklers, Champagne and confetti, the gaiety lasted just a little over an hour.

SKy news is saying this might have done by the same gang that did the airport (where 3 suicide bombers.

They are also reporting that in reality there was a LOT of intel that something was "brewing"

He is not the man dressed as Santa. Yet the Santa-man was shooting too.

I can't help wondering why that little dog was in this nightclub. So odd to see it wandering in the video.

That is what I am thinking - that he was undercover cop in disguise - and then got into his regular clothes - hard to chase a terrorist in an costume

just speculation - in that arena the doggie baby makes sense cause the area has huge outdoor patio - so I would guess our precious babies are allowed to stop in for a spin on the dance floor!!

Sky said he was smiling - that would be really scary.

Rbbm.
Bingo, ita.
decoys...
speculation.imo.

I have read might be more than one also, but I kinda think enough time has gone by for that to be case.

There were hundreds in there, I would think by now "witness" reports we would have confirmation of more

just mo

What are your thoughts on the fact we see him enter in dark clothing...then see him in light clothing inside, then see him removing this light clothing....

Are we really to believe one person managed to have 2 outfit changes in a club with 600 patrons plus undercover security ... and yet despite these outfit changes managed to control the entire scene the whole time?

No one tried to jump him or stop him while he's changing? Something is not adding up here.

But......if we change santa to a cop it comes together no?

Especially since we know they were putting undercover cops in santa outfits

I really have a hard time seeing the gun in the main video going around

moo

Not necessarily, but there must be a reason the P.M. said perp was not in Santa outfit.
Wondering if that was so people would not try and chase down or be afraid of, the undercover LE, that apparently were wearing those costumes?
In which case, if the perp was aware of those disguises, it would serve him, to change into a Santa outfit.

Crazy stuff either way, imo, speculation.

Well my dear, thanx a lot -- now I am back to confusion!!!!

Cause that is a brilliant idea. They were (I thought that was dumb when I heard it

Why "tell' you got Santa disguises for LE -- doesn't that kind give stuff away that the public has no need to know

Its not like were dealing with folks who are not afraid to die- so I think ones notions about "deterrents" are really useless.

Islamic State has now claimed responsibility for the massacre at the Reina club, in which 69 people were wounded, four critically

ISIS officially claims responsibility for #Istanbul nightclub attack. Statement refers to Turkey as "protector of the cross". @akhbar

ISIS at war with Turkey. Istanbul attack "continuation of blessed operations carried out by Islamic State against protector of the Cross."

I have seen ISIS statement claiming Istanbul nightclub attack in Turkish, French &Arabic. Attack carried out by "one fighter of caliphate".

ISIS says Istanbul attack is "response to the order of Emir of Believers". Lately al-Baghdadi singled out Turkey &urged attacks against it.

On telegram, ISIS supporters are pushing images &videos of death &destruction by Turkish planes in al-Bab, Syria to justify Istanbul attack.

ISIS had the time to build a huge network in #Turkey & now its openly declaring war on the country.

Worst thing about Arabic tweets on Istanbul attack is that main concern of some isn't the dead people but alcohol served in the club. Shame.

Witness reports might have, an I believe there is likely even truth there. But Erdogan will control the dialogue that comes out about this story. That's why he put the media ban in effect in the first place.

That man is a manipulative dictator to the core! He changed the Turkish constitution to give him more power then any president before and then he rigged the election that moved him from PM to president. He has undone decades of secular law and he has taken away freedom of speach and press in many ways.

The only thing that has kept him in check so far is understanding the significance of a US/ Turkish relations. He has known he has to toe the line btw east and west very carefully to maintain our support.

But behind closed doors he's helped fund terrorism right along with Putin. And now with our new president elect he won't even have a reason to toe that line of ethics any longer.

Sadly this is the sign of much worse to come.

But will we ever hear the whole truth about this or the airport bombing, unlikely. We will only hear the facts Erdogan wants us too...yes.

Yes sadly if you break it down, this attack was on secular Islam, and the rich elite that support more Kemalist ideals.

Essentially it targeted the children of Erdogans enemies...because those are the very people that hang out in a place like Reina.

For the record it's a very very nice place, huge. I've been there a few times, and wish I could remember more of the details inside but can't...we usually went there for the outdoor patio.

Yes it makes sense if the Santa changing was a cop...and he never had outfit changes himself at all...then it could certainly be one gunman.

One thing about dogs...it could be a pet of course...but Istanbul has dogs and cats that roam the street like we see squirrels. The dogs get tagged and get shots, and usually stick to neighborhoods and get fed by local places. They are friendly and will come right up to you but they roam around and they are literally everywhere.

Culturally this is because traditionally Muslims wouldn't have a dog live in their home...because you keep floors really clean (like not wearing shoes in someone's home) because prayer is done on the floor. So Istanbul just ended up with all these roaming dogs. Though today of course you see plenty of people who own dogs as pets.

My point is it could have been a street dog as well.

I don't really understand what you are asking or saying here?

Are you saying LE shouldn't have said they had undercover cops in Santa suits because it would help him?

I don't think that is info the released before the attack, so if the gunman knew that it was likely through intel.

I think LE said that after the attack though when the suspect was already on the run.

and people are dancing, and living a western lifestyle

I'm disgusted by the lack of media coverage this attack is getting! If this attack was on the fanciest night club in London or Paris and killed rich white people we would hear it on every channel, they would be talking about it on every morning show.

My country and race embarasses me at times.

Much better photo here.

According to specialists who examined the footage, the ISIL militant looks professionally trained on how to use the weapon. He can be seen wearing a green shirt, a dark pair of trousers and black boots, firing his long-barreled weapon at people’s upper bodies. Over the course of the attack he changed six chargers and fired over 180 bullets, according to investigations.

He then went to the kitchen of Reina and stayed there for around 13 minutes before changing his clothes, taking off his coat, and escaping from the scene amid continued panic. He also cleaned his weapon before leaving the scene.

He then got in a cab and got out in nearby Kuruçeşme after telling the driver he had no money to pay.

Investigators found a total of 500 Turkish Liras in the pocket of the coat that he left in Reina, and police are investigating whether he was wearing two coats when he entered the club.

Meanwhile, a man whose photo was widely shared on social media as the alleged perpetrator of the attack has applied to a police station with his lawyer to file a legal complaint against the websites that shared his photo. Ramazan İşan, originally from Kazakhstan, said he arrived in Istanbul to work and had nothing to do with the attack.
