League City team suspends search for missing Iraq veteran who suffers from PTSD

Aaron Balaban, 36, had been staying with his parents following several upheavals in his life, and had an upcoming court date Tuesday morning on a misdemeanor trespassing charge. The night before the hearing, he told his father he was relieved he was coming with him to court. Tuesday morning, Balaban was gone. He was seen wearing jeans, a dark green puffy jacket and tennis shoes.

Officials received a tip Saturday morning from ex-landlord of the missing man, saying he’d spotted Balaban on a running trail near Toddville Road in Seabrook, White said. The former landlord—who’d had a contentious relationship with the missing man—tried to approach the man he saw on the trail, but he fled. Volunteers searched for about a mile around the trail as well, to no avail. However, Balaban’s father said the ex-landlord’s description didn’t sound right — his son didn’t have pork chop sideburns and he had a short haircut, unlike the man the caller described.

Balaban’s parents said he left their house late Monday night carrying just a cell phone and wallet and never returned.

Texas EquuSearch said the League City Police Department started a missing person's report on Balaban but cancelled it Friday. They did not say why.
This part stood out to me. Not sure if that’s what they meant or if they were trying to say LE cancelled the search (not missing person report) ??

  • His father says he has post-traumatic episodes, but he does not believe he is suicidal.

  • AB served a 1 year tour in Iraq and saw “extreme action” as a cavalry scout in the Army, 101st Airborne Division, as a 50-caliber gunner on a Humvee.
  • He came back with hearing loss, he was afraid of loud noises, crowded rooms, and he was nervous anywhere there were a lot of cars around him.
  • A crew of 27 volunteers searched a 1-mile radius from his parents’ home on foot, ATV and in cars for about 7 hours, headed by David White, TXEQ.
