A highway worksite has quickly evolved into a crime scene, with investigators from six agencies trying to identify the human skeleton found in a shallow grave outside the city.
The skeleton was wrapped in a blanket and buried near the intersection of Highway 286 and FM 43.
Investigators said a recent fire in the area may have damaged some evidence, but it also led to the discovery of the crime scene. The fire cleared away a lot of the overgrowth that had hidden the bones from view.
TxDOT workers were checking out the burned area Wednesday as part of a project to improve the nearby intersection when they realized the bones they found did not belong to an animal.
