On October 5, 2019, at about 3:48 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue regarding an assist officer request by Mesquite Police. The preliminary investigation revealed that Mesquite Police initiated a pursuit of a stolen vehicle within the city limits of Mesquite. The pursuit crossed into the city limits of Dallas. Once inside the city limits of Dallas, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Mesquite police chased the driver into the backyard of a residence in the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue. Mesquite PD observed the suspect with a handgun and shots were fired by Mesquite PD. The driver was struck. Officers rendered emergency aid. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured. A gun was recovered. For charges related to the incident please contact Mesquite PD. Dallas officers did not fire their weapons. The incident is documented on case number 203015-2019. The investigation is ongoing.

Mesquite police confirmed that an officer from their department was involved in a shooting Saturday in Dallas.

Dallas police are investigating this incident since it occurred within Dallas city limits.

According to Dallas police officials, Mesquite police were involved in a chase where the suspect got out of the vehicle and began running in the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue.

Police chased the suspect through the backyard of a residence when officers noticed the suspect had a handgun. Mesquite police fired shots and the suspect was struck.

Dallas police did not fire their weapons.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

The shooting happened at about 3:48 p.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Police said Mesquite police were chasing a reported stolen vehicle, when the driver crossed into Dallas city limits. The driver then fled the vehicle on foot and officers chased them into the backyard of a residence on Lovett Avenue.

Officers saw the driver with a handgun and at least one Mesquite officer fired a shot, according to Dallas police.

The driver was struck and and transported to Baylor University Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

No officers were injured and police recovered a gun.

Dallas police officers did not fire their guns.

As always TY Is Grandma. You are on it we appreciate it ! Prayers for Joshua and his family and friends, tragic ! So very many questions, nothing coming back. My nephew was a young black man murdered eating an ice cream on his own front porch. Police have never identified a poi. Likey never will... But he's still dead at the hand of another. . Just a damn shame... Dallas is not a safe place hasn't been for years... Just a damn shame... I hope this brave young man's killer is brought to pay for the life he or she has taken...a damn shame MOO
