Escalante served time in Williamson County for theft and also for one in Travis County. In 2012, he was housed at Del Valle.

Daniel kept a picture of himself that looked like it had been cut out of a newspaper. "He wasn't mad or sad about it, he was chuckling."

Escalante overhead Daniel talking to another inmate. The other inmate told Escalante that Daniel was planning an escape from jail.

Escalante tried to tell the other inmate it was crazy for them to attempt the escape because there were too many guards to go through.

Escalante met with defense attorney this past Sunday. Escalante has been following the case in the newspapers and on television.

As a trustee, Escalante is supposed to keep inmates in order. He was asked to keep pencils, spoons, and plastic cups away from Daniel.

Escalante was under impression, cooperating w/ state would lead to earlier release. Prosecution made clear from beginning they cut no deals.
