*Plea Hearing (all charges) (@ 9am CT) - TX - Samuel Olson (5, would have been 6 on 5/29/21) (it was reported that he was taken by an unknown male from a southwest Houston home in the 8800 block of McAvoy Dr. at about 7:30am on May 27, 2021, but he had been missing for 2 weeks before this, found June 1, 2021 inside a tote bag in the Best Western motel in Jasper). – *Theresa Raye Balboa (29/now 31) arrested (6/2/21) & charged (7/8/21) & indicted (8/26/21) with tampering with evidence (human corpse). Bond $500K.
She was jailed on 6/2/21 & was extradited from Jasper County Jail to Harris County Thursday, 6/3/21.
*Charged (7/13/21) & indicted (8/26/21) with capital murder-under 10 years. $1.5M Bond. Denied bond (7/8/21).
*Charged (11/29/20) & indicted (6/24/21) with assault (on family). Bond $5K. Bonded out on 11/29/20. Bond $100K (set on 6/7/21). Back in jail. Bond denied.
Trial was set to begin on 2/20/23 was continued on 8/7/23.

Theresa Balboa pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Samuel Olson's death as part of a plea deal, avoiding the death penalty.

Balboa, who isn't the boy's mother, but was dating his father at the time, must serve 26 years before she is eligible for parole. However, she'll get credit for the time she's served since her initial arrest in 2021.

Dylan Ray Walker, 28, was also found with the child's body in Jasper. Authorities later revealed that he called in a Crime Stoppers tip that led police to the hotel. Still, he was charged with tampering with intent to impair.

The third person charged in Samuel's death is Balboa's roommate, Ben Rivera.

Rivera told police he went to Walmart on May 13 and bought duct tape and a plastic tote bin that they put the child in and took him to a storage unit where he remained until May 31.

Woohoo thank you, finally some justice for little Sam. I guess TB didn't want to mess around and find out. I wish she'd gotten the DP (as I do in all child murder cases) but I can live with her serving 26 years. Even then she may be denied parole and one can hope.

I wonder what the sentences will be for the other two? Has anybody heard a peep from bio Dad?

I agree with Sarah Olson, Sammy's mother, here. She should have been sentenced to LWOP -- she was saved from death by her plea.

Same for Megan Fieramusca murdering Heidi and kidnapping her baby. She's eligible for parole after only got 26 years too -- and credit for time served.

6/24/21 Update: The arrest of Dylan Ray Walker, 27, came following an indictment which was handed down on Thursday morning by a Jasper County Grand Jury after hearing evidence in the case submitted by District Attorney Anne Pickle. He is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail in connection with his alleged role in the transport of a dead child's body that was recently found in a Jasper motel room. The indictment charges Walker with tampering/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair. Specifically, Walker is accused of helping Balboa to transport the body of Samuel. Bond on Walker was set at $125K by District Judge Delinda Gibbs Walker. Walker obtained the motel room for Balboa, transported the victim to the Best Western -- leaving Samuel (hidden inside the tote) in his truck bed for a couple of hours while he was inside the hotel room with Balboa. Walker later contacted CrimeStoppers after he departed from the hotel. Bonded out on 6/24/21.

The Harris County District Court site has been revised and the "Activities" tab can be misleading. Rivera is not being sentenced on 7/19. He's actually been up for a pretrial conference hearing since May 2022 which for the last 12 months has been reset by both the prosecution and defense. I guess we will have to wait until 7/20 to see if the hearing was held or reset, again!

TX DPS has a public search site including Jasper County but it's limited to searching for parties that have been convicted ('Convictions Name Search') which is fee-based per name search.
