@Niner can you verify the full name I’m looking for and the charge(s)? A quick check on Juan D. Ortiz didn’t return any serious charges.

Okay - I found an article marking the first death of this killer... looks like I have to change my notes.

Sept. 2, 2022
LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - It’s a story that shook the Laredo community four years ago; a Border Patrol agent who allegedly went on a killing spree, killing four women.

This Saturday marks the four years since the death of Melissa Ramirez who was allegedly the first of four women killed by the hands of former agent Juan David Ortiz.
[.....]
During Ortiz’s last pre-trial, it was announced that the trial will take place in San Antonio with jury selection set for Oct. 21.

@MsMarple - was wondering if you can access the Webb County court site? The link is in post #106.

From the article below - it looks like he had a pretrial hearing before his trial in October. Wondering what the court site says.

Sept. 21, 2022
Attorneys for a former Supervisory Border Patrol agent accused of killing four women in 2018 wants to suppress evidence in the capital murder case.
[.....]
A hearing took place on Tuesday in the 406th District Court. A motion to reopen motion to suppress search and defendant’s statement states that Ortiz’s arrest and the seizure of items, papers and other evidence from him were done without a valid warrant or probable cause or reasonable suspicion in violation of the Fourth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution and Texas Constitution of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

The defense also mentioned that the search of Ortiz’s vehicle was illegal because it was done without a valid warrant, probable cause or reasonable suspicion. Attorneys for Ortiz also stated that the search of his home, real property and outbuildings was also illegal since it was done without a warrant or probable cause.

A ruling on the hearing is pending.

From the article below - it looks like he had a pretrial hearing before his trial in October. Wondering what the court site says.
