A teenage girl has been seriously injured in a shooting in Liverpool.

Gunfire was reported in Upper Warwick Street in the Toxteth area at about 17:10 GMT on Tuesday, Merseyside Police said.

The 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital and is in a "serious" but stable condition, the force said.

A 21-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A man, 27, was held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

A 21-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life remains in police custody.

A 60-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation.

A fourth person has been arrested after a 15-year-old girl was shot as she waited at a bus stop after school.

The teenager, who was wearing her school uniform, suffered "devastating" injuries to her upper body on Tuesday.

Merseyside Police said shots were fired from a group riding bikes in the Toxteth area of Liverpool.

An 18-year-old man from Toxteth has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, police said.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a girl was shot as she waited at a bus stop.

The 15-year-old was seriously injured in Upper Warwick Street, Liverpool on Tuesday and is in a stable condition in hospital, Merseyside Police said.

Rio Jones, of Jermyn Street, has been charged with attempted murder, having a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a controlled drug.

He is due to appear at the city's adult remand court on Saturday.
