I totally understand your point and I agree with the need to be cautious, that % is highly concerning too, but female teachers can be paedophiles/abusers as well. In fact, they tend to get off lighter for some reason. I can think of numerous cases where female teachers have had sex with their underage students and I don't think it's taken as seriously. It just seems to be a sad case that unfortunately people in positions of power/care sometimes take advantage of those they are meant to protect.
Exactly.

I don't disagree with you but l was thinking in risk terms to my daughter. It's more likely to be a male but l,'m not ignorant to abuse from women or peers.

There was a local case of a woman who was convicted recently. She had videos on her phone of herself abusing a child.

I can't really sit well with 'everything before the verdict was a lie' and 'everything in his confession was true'.

To be fair we don't even know his whole confession.

The evidence was there to find him guilty (and he was found guilty emphatically).

I'm not going to change my mind over missing Nike hoodie fibres.

I don't know if the hoodie came in contact with Alesha, but AC certainly did, unfortunately.
I agree and from personal crime scene experience and fibres and fibre transfer etc I can say that it’s not always a given to find fibres. It depends on many factors . The type of material that the NIKE jacket is made of, the type of material that A’s clothes are made of and how they may stick together, how much the scene and /or the item forensically tester was preserved, the weather conditions at the time the item was found, the place it was found .... I could go on and on . It’s a bonus to get fibre transfer but they can and do fall off and it depends on a lot of circumstances and factors all aligning together to get the results needed from the forensic examination. MOO

Appears AC was quite “lucky” on a few fronts - ie. lack of Alesha’s DNA in his house and lack of his DNA in hers (not including the handprint) and also the fibres as discussed above.

If it weren’t for the CCTV footage who knows what the outcome could have been.

No offence but how do your credentials compare with the witness mentioned below?

“Next witness is forensic scientist Sarah Jones. She has been in this profession for 22 years

Witness specialises in fibres and clothing“

Oh no,I think that's so sad, kids need to be kids,we can't keep them from ever getting hurt(As much as we want to)and the chances of something happening really are small(this is not really the place to support that theory).
I don't think that can be true,1 -3% of men?!.
I think though that apart from the fact that the population is much greater these days so more chance statistically of encountering a paedophile or a psychopath, these people and these dangers have always been there, they were there when we were young,I remember the big one when I was young was the Jason Swift case, that was in all the nationals, but we have the world literally at our fingertips now so all that exposure magnifies our fears.

I'm with you. I think men with pedophilic tendencies are rare. Predation like this is exceedingly rare.

It's just so horrible that it becomes so magnified in our minds because the horror of it is too great.

I worked in Polmont as a contractor and know several people who have been inside and it was absolute hell for them. They all described it as much harder than Barlinnie for example. AC might be the highest profile to ever have been in there though but a door will be left opened / blind eye turned at some point. They’ll get to him.

Thank you for that. I guess I'm just used to our very harsh system of incarceration here in the states. (Which doesn't seem to deter or prevent recidivism BTW). There's no gym like that or pool playing. Smoking isn't allowed. Video games? No way.

But nost aren't probably like this creep. Hopefully they can be rehabbed and leaving them with no activities or stimulation wouldn't help that.

I feel out for blood I suppose. Hearing how the baby suffered. Seeing and hearing her family's anguish. And the worst? His smug satisfaction and sadistic smiles.

That is so hard to swallow. It's too much.

I’m with you. 100%
Right now he’s got access to an Xbox, a tv, a shop where he can buy junk food and magazines, a gym he can visit daily. Education courses. Protection from the guards. To me that’s not punishment for this horrific crime. I know I keep going on about it but the fact he wanted to laugh during the trial is appauling. It’s yet another blow to aleshas family. I’m not even sure what he could of found funny. I Can’t get my head round the fact a 16 year old could be so evil

I think the bottom line is there can never be true justice in such heinous cases. Not with a psychopath so utterly lacking in remorse. So it eats at our hearts. It's just a shift in the universe that doesn't make sense. An incredibly beautiful, innocent child, slaughtered. And a cruel, evil one, protected and pampered.

I really hope the other prisoners do get to him & the guards turn a blind eye, but tbh I wouldn’t like anyone to get time added to their sentence for this repulsive therefor I hope when it does happen several people target him at the one time & finish him off. That way it will be too hard in court to prove beyond reasonable doubt however did it. Think we are defo wasting tax payers money allowing him all the luxuries & protection he is getting. The monster is totally beyond rehabilitation. Fly high with the angels sweet Alesha xx

Yes - no matter what happens to him nothing will flicker any emotion because he is incapable of those feelings. He’s dead inside.

're laughing,I can only think it was when poor Toni was testifying,I'm sure her shock and fear amused him no end!.
I'm guessing it won't be as easy for him to access all these things in Polmont as it would for the normal inmates, the shop and gym at least(No consolation) as he is isolated from the others for much of the day?

I'm not disputing that that will happen at some point, I've always wondered though if the person/s who 'allows' that to happen gets severely disciplined or sacked?

I have been following this case from the beginning and like many of you, it has really affected me. I’ve worked with children and young people for ten years and I just can’t get my head around a teenage boy taking a child’s life in such a horrific way and then showing absolutely no remorse. It’s chilling.

I thought of the Ted Bundy tapes and the part where someone said that people like to think they could pick murderers out by sight. When I see photos of AC, he’s like any young boy you’d walk past in the street without a second thought. On the outside he seemed to have a good life, certainly a much nicer life than some of the disadvantaged children I work with. He had a big house, garden, trampoline, friends, success at school, freedom to socialise etc. If only he’d kept his vile urges to himself and allowed little Alesha to grow up and enjoy her life too. I hope that she is in peace now and that her family can find some solace in the future.

Yes I completely agree with you. Especially after his own mother said he used to lock himself away and play video games which is probably exactly what he will be doing now.

When I mentioned people I have came across in the past who have been in Polmont and described it as complete hell that was in reference to other inmates and bullying not the prison conditions itself. AC will be completely segregated so most probably won’t have that worry on a daily basis anyway.

Forgot to add that this is another question as to why nothing was found on his computer. It's standard to make that known to the public.
He was either clever (hiding another phone/laptop) or did he actually try to push down his compulsions at some point?
