The 23-year-old arrested man was found seriously injured and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The force said it was linking the murder to reports of a man seen acting suspiciously near the Fox and Hounds pub on Christmas Common, near the park, a few hours earlier at about 15:30, and have appealed for anyone who saw the man to get in touch.

Det Supt Craig Kirby said: "We believe that this was not a random attack and that the victim and the attacker were known to each other.

"The arrested man remains in the custody of police officers while he receives hospital treatment for serious injuries."

Man charged with murder after woman found dead in National Trust woodland

A MAN charged with murder after a woman was found dead in National Trust woodlands has appeared at court.

Daniel O’Hara-Wright, 23, of Regent Avenue, Hillingdon, has today been charged with one count of murder.

The charge relates to an incident on Friday October 23 in which Carole Wright, 62, from London, was found dead in woodland in the Watlington Hill National Trust Park, Oxfordshire.

Thames Valley Police said her family continue to be supported by specially trained officers and the family have said they wish for their privacy to be respected at this time.

O’Hara-Wright appeared at Oxford Crown Court today and will next appear at Oxford Crown Court on January 8 2021.

A provisional trial date was also pencilled in at the hearing for April 12 next year.

A time estimate for the case was agreed for three weeks.

Sounded pretty straight forward on first reading - gran murdered by grandson?? He was covered in blood - I juat thought - stabbing?? PM has nothing though and awaiting forensics. He is up for a murder charge so he done something pretty conclusive and must have tried to kill himself? MOO

Did she take him on a holiday gone wrong?

It's quite likely they're related, although Wright is quite a common surname, it does seem a bit coincidental.

The injuries he sustained I'm guessing were a result of her fighting back.

A son killed his mother with a broken bottle before gouging out her eyes on a country walk because he thought she was a 'demon', a court has heard.

Daniel O'Hara-Wright, 23, suddenly turned on his mother Carole as they walked together at a National Trust beauty spot in Oxfordshire on October 23 last year.

[...]

O'Hara-Wright is standing trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with murder.

[...]

The court heard he then ran into a road and jumped on a passing motorist's car before 'car-jacking' a horrified woman and forcing her to drive to the village of Christmas Common.

Once they arrived at the village, O'Hara-Wright jumped out the car and ran across the countryside, somehow electrocuting himself to such a serious extent that his arm had to be amputated.

Alan Blake, prosecuting, detailed how the defendant went on to break into a nearby farmhouse, where occupants were enjoying a sauna.

They found him naked and covered in blood inside their bathroom and called police.

[...]

'One of the officers, PC Cartwright. asked him if anyone else was hurt. Initially he said nothing but then he said "I’ve hurt my mum".

'At 7.45pm that evening O’Hara-Wright was arrested on suspicion of murder. He responded calmly saying "that’s fine, I understand" before adding "it was kill or be killed".'

[...]

The defendant, who is being held in a secure hospital, will not be present throughout the trial.

Jurors heard that, while in hospital, O'Hara-Wright has assaulted a police officer and attacked a nurse with a spoon handle before trying to stab himself.

Two psychiatrists have separately examined the defendant and concluded that he could claim to have been insane at the time of the incident.

[...]

O’Hara-Wright, of Uxbridge, west London, denies murder.

His defence, led by Mark Graffius QC, is expected to argue that he was insane at the time of the events and not responsible for his actions.

I don't often get shocked reading stuff on here anymore, but that is an exception. Had a feeling this would be an unusual case, but that is messed up beyond belief.

I'm trying to work out why they are having a trial and not accepting a plea of diminished responsibility, as I have seen happen in other cases. I wonder if there is some dispute as to his mental state.

I was one of waiting jury members out of 16 hoping to be picked to make the 12, I was only 2 away as the Judge gave the option of not to take part due to the contents of the trail 2 people obliged.

My name was not picked out so did not sit on the trail.

There is a live report here that I have been following, some of the things that where read out where grim, he inserted a eye ball into the mouth while his mum was alive, sounds like he tried to commit suicide while in a nearby house cutting his neck and groin area, he spat his own poop at nurses while in the hospital, some how he received a thermal burn to his arm that later was amputetaed.

What an absolutely traumatic experience this must have been for all involved

That's a very good link, and a really disturbing read; I think there's not a lot of doubt about the mental health issues involved in this case. Adding yesterday and today's links:

As it happened: Updates from day two of Christmas Common 'murder' trial
Live updates from third day of Christmas Common 'murder' trial

Did you read today's court reporting the Dr said it's probably the worst case of phycohtic behaviour he has seen in 30 years.

I can find absolutely nothing on social media for him <modsnip>

I finished reading after I posted the link and yes, sounds really extreme behaviour there. I'm not actually sure why this is even in court, given it seems fairly agreed how bad his psychotic condition was - I suppose to just figure out the line between manslaughter via diminished responsibility and not guilty via insanity? Would've made more sense to reach some sensible agreement on it and not traumatise 12 jurors IMO.

Today's link: Live updates from fourth day of Christmas Common 'murder' trial - not entierely sure I even want to read it after the previous ones...

yeah that's not nice reading.

I think I reached the conclusion that it could be a bit of a grey area where drugs are involved.
