Police have issued a new photograph of a missing Nuneaton pensioner as concern for his welfare grows.

They hope that the new image of Derek Arnold may help lead them to finding out where he is.

The 71-year-old has not been seen since Tuesday night (June 8) and police are growing increasingly concerned about his welfare.

Warwickshire and Leicester Lowland Rescue teams, the police helicopter and firefighters took part in a major search for him around Arbury Hall last night.

A similar search has taken place around Seeswood Pool today (June 10) but he remains missing.

Detective Inspector Cindy Stephenson from Nuneaton CID said: “We’re growing increasingly concerned for Mr Arnold’s welfare and are keen to speak to anyone who sees him or who has seen him since Tuesday (8 June) night. Any information, no matter how small, could be vital in helping use to locate him.

“We’re also asking anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from the area to check it for any sightings of him.”

Anyone who sees Derek is asked to call 999 immediately. Anyone with other information that could help police in their search should call 101 quoting incident 154 of 9 June 2021.

Police continue to search for missing Nuneaton man

If something hasn't already happened to him, he'll have had no food, or, more importantly in this current hot weather, water, unless he had some in the bag he was carrying.

A CCTV image shows the last movement of a missing Nuneaton OAP as a community search party is organised to find him.

The photograph shows missing Stockingford man Derek Arnold on Arbury Road on Wednesday morning (June 9).

He has not been seen since and detectives hope the image may jog someone’s memory and they urge anyone who has seen him to call 999.

The huge search to find the 71-year-old is ongoing.

Warwickshire and Leicester Lowland Rescue teams, the police helicopter and firefighters took part in a majorsearch for him around Arbury Hall on Wednesday night.

Now the community is getting involved. It has been organised by friends of Mr Arnold's family and people are being asked to meet at 7pm tonight (June 11).

"We are organising a search for him in local parts of Nuneaton, such as Stockingford, Arley, Ansley, as these are parts of Nuneaton that Derek is most familiar with," said Keira Shaw, one of the organisers.

"If anyone is able to assist then we will be meeting at the entrance to the football fields at Hilltop in Arley at 7pm.

"It is not organised by any charity or police, just family members that are becoming more and more worried as the days go by. Just a case of meeting to split up so cover more area.

"Please meet us there at 7pm. We will be leaving there to search at 7.10pm.

Warwickshire Police seem to be quite good with 'found' updates, but there isn't one so far for Mr Arnold on their site or Facebook page.

Has he been found then??

No, apologies, I meant that there are no new updates at all since the last report on the 11th. I couldn't even find anything on continuing searches, so he must still be missing.

It's possible that the Police will issue a renewed plea tomorrow - not many people will be attentive today due to the Euros....

Oh yes, I see.

The area is one with a lot of greenery, woods, etc, and water, and largely where they have conducted searches. He may not have reached that far even.

There has been no mention as to his general health and fitness, ie whether he has dementia or heart trouble, but after this long and the hot weather, I don't think it looks good.

Police issue ANOTHER appeal.

A full 7 days now this gentleman has been missing.

(note, a mod changed my date on heading, I am not sure why? It was the morning of the 9th he was last seen, and officially missing from)

Detective Inspector Cindy Stephenson said: “We have used all the resources available to us to carry out intensive and extensive searches of the area, but unfortunately have been unable to find Derek as yet.

"Our searches and investigations will continue but our concerns are growing with every hour that passes..."

Police have used 'all resources' in bid to find missing Nuneaton pensioner

I am perhaps reading too much into it but the fact he's an adult and that articles were being published within hours of him being reported missing makes me think there is info that hasn't been shared.

Really doesn't look promising, I assume by now they've tried any relatives or friends he might have gone t0.

The nephew of an elderly man who has gone missing says they are 'trying to stay hopeful' despite the fact that he has not been seen for two weeks.

Derek Arnold was last seen walking along Arbury Road on Wednesday June 9.

Extensive searches of the area have been by the police, search and rescue volunteers and the community itself, but the 71-year-old has still not been found.

His disappearance has taken its toll on the family said Mathew Arnold, Derek's nephew.

"It's an emotional situation for us, it is difficult, I am not going to lie," he said.

"We are trying to stay hopeful, but it is two weeks now, I have two uncles and my dad, they are all struggling."

Through their desperation to find Derek, known as 'Dec', the family have been 'blown away' by the support they have received from the community.

"We are so grateful for all of the local community together ,doing searches, there have been a lot of volunteers, there have been a lot of people going round all sorts of places in Nuneaton and we would like to thank them all," the Whitestone resident said.

He explained that 'Dec' had no signs of Alzheimers, dementia or mental health problems when he went missing.

"Usually when he goes out, he goes out with his brother Edwin for walks," he said.

He lives with his brother Edwin on Arbury Road and it was on that road, on the left hand side opposite the Royal Oak pub, when he was last seen early on the morning of Wednesday, June 9.
