A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a home in Leeds, police are attempting to find the victim's husband.

Emergency services were called to Naburn Fold at around 6.30pm on August 15 and West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a woman was found dead with serious injuries.

The victim has been identified as Eileen Barrott, aged 50, by West Yorkshire Police.

Detectives investigating the murder are trying to trace Ms Barrott's husband, Mark, who travelled to Scotland yesterday - police have said that he was seen leaving Leeds train station at 1pm yesterday before arriving in Edinburgh at 4pm.

Tributes have now been paid to Eileen, who is understood to have worked as a nurse at St James' Hospital.

Pals also claim the mum-of-two worked all hours to escape Mark.

One said: "Rest in peace my dear colleague. What an amazing nurse. God bless your soul".

Another wrote: "Poor Eileen she was a lovely person inside and out.

So so sad, she didn't deserve this. God bless her. RIP.

"Eileen you will be missed and thoughts to her family and children".

While a neighbour said: "She was a nurse all those years, it’s so sad. She was such a hard worker, always going out working hard.

"They are two lovely children as well...They were a normal family, a lovely family."

Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Leeds have renewed their appeal for information to trace her husband after he was seen in Aberdeen.

Mark Barrott, aged 54, is wanted as a suspect for the murder of his wife Eileen Barrott, aged 50, who was found dead at the couple’s home in Naburn Fold, Whinmoor, on Sunday.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have been working with colleagues from Police Scotland to trace Mr Barrott after it was established that he had travelled to Edinburgh from Leeds by train on Sunday.

Further enquiries have shown he subsequently caught a train to Aberdeen and was last sighted on CCTV in Huntly Street in the city centre at 9.16pm on Sunday.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe said: “We are continuing to carry out extensive enquiries to locate Mark Barrott as a suspect for his wife Eileen’s murder.

“We are liaising closely with our colleagues from Police Scotland who have established the most recent sighting of Mr Barrott on CCTV in Aberdeen city centre on Sunday night.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who has seen him since then or who has any information that could assist in tracing him.

“We continue to advise anyone who does see him not to approach him but to contact police immediately on 999.

“Eileen’s family have been left completely devastated at her death in these circumstances and we are doing everything we can to support them as we progress the investigation.”

Officers are still appealing to trace Mr Barrott’s car – a silver Toyota Avensis, registration FJ51 ZHB - which is believed to have been left somewhere in Leeds prior to him taking the train to Scotland.

Mark Barrott's car has been found and seized by police as the manhunt to find him continues.

Mr Barrott, 54, is the prime suspect for the murder of his wife Eileen Barrott, 50, who was found dead at the couple’s home in Naburn Fold, Whinmoor, Leeds, on Sunday.

He travelled to Scotland on the day of his wife's murder and was last seen on CCTV in Huntly Street in Aberdeen city centre at 9.16pm on Sunday, after initially travelling by train from Leeds to Edinburgh in the afternoon.

This evening Mark Barrott's car, which police had been searching for, was found in the Lincoln Green area of Leeds, just streets away from St James's University Hospital, where Eileen worked as a nurse.

Pictures show it being loaded onto a covered flatbed recovery truck by police. It is believed to have been left there by Mark Barrott before he caught the train to Scotland.

West Yorkshire Police are keen to hear from anyone who has seen him since then or who has any information that could assist in tracing him.

People have been warned not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information after Leeds murder suspect Mark Barrott was traced to Elgin in Scotland.

The 54-year-old is wanted as a suspect for the murder of his wife Eileen Barrott, aged 50, who was found dead at the couple’s home in Naburn Fold, Whinmoor, on Sunday.

Information was received yesterday that he had been staying near to Elgin, Moray. Officers attended the premises and confirmed he had been there but was no longer present.

He is believed to have travelled to Elgin by train from Aberdeen, where he had been seen on CCTV on Sunday night.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are continuing to work with colleagues from Police Scotland to trace him following this latest sighting.


Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe said: “We are still working to locate and arrest Mark Barrott as a suspect for his wife Eileen’s murder, and we are keen to hear from anyone who has seen him following this latest confirmed sighting in the Elgin area yesterday.

“We have already sent detectives to Scotland to work alongside our colleagues from Police Scotland who are supporting and assisting the search for Mr Barrott.

“Our advice remains that anyone who sees him should not approach him but should contact police immediately on 999.

“Clearly, Eileen’s family are continuing to go through an incredibly difficult time following her death and I would appeal directly to Mark Barrott to hand himself in to police and avoid prolonging things any further.”

Mr Barrott’s silver Toyota Avensis was recovered from the Lincoln Green area of Leeds shortly before 7pm yesterday. It is believed to have been left there before he travelled to Edinburgh from Leeds by train.

A man wanted as a suspect for the murder of his wife in Leeds has been arrested in Scotland this morning.

Mark Barrott, aged 54, was detained by officers from Police Scotland in the Elgin area at about 4.30am today.

He has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Eileen Barrott, aged 50, who was found dead at the couple’s home in Naburn Fold, Whinmoor, on Sunday.

He will be brought back to West Yorkshire to be interviewed by detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

A man is due to appear in court charged with murder in relation to the death of his wife in Leeds.

Mark Barrott, aged 54, has been charged with the murder of Eileen Barrott, aged 50, who was found dead at the couple’s home in Naburn Fold, Whinmoor, on Sunday, August 15.

He is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday 23 August 2021

At the end of the short hearing, DJ Capstick tells Barrott he will appear before a judge again later this week.

His next hearing is due to take place at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, August 25.

What a load of old *advertiser censored* and bull. Acts controlling/coercing for years and when his wife finally tries to leave he strangles her to death and it's because "he's killing a demon inside her" - typical defense for someone going for insanity - the bloke is a pig. The jury will see right through him.

His story is laughable.

Thats exactly what I thought Chimpface. I hope the jury do see right through him. Especially when I read what her work colleagues had said about his previous behaviour
 
A man who went on the run after killing his wife at their home in Leeds has been found guilty of her murder.

Barrott was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on 8 August 2022.
