A man has been named as the driver wanted by police after a 12-year-old boy was killed when a car collided with children outside a school in Essex.

Police want to speak to 51-year-old Terry Glover about what is thought to have been a “deliberate” crash, Chief Superintendent Tracey Harman of Essex Police said.

Speaking at a press conference outside Loughton police station, she said: "We believe the collision was deliberate and as such we have launched a murder investigation."

The Mirror has printed a photo of the wanted man - 51 year old Terry Glover from Loughton. I wonder what the other incident was:

"We believe that the collision was deliberate and as such we have launched a murder investigation, we are investigating whether or not this incident may have been connected to another incident near by."

Police name man they want to speak to after boy, 12, killed in hit-and-run

Shocking. What on earth??

I know, sounds like he hit half a dozen people so who knows whether the 12 year was specifically targeted, or if the man was just aiming for general schoolchildren. Or was the 53 year old injured woman the target? Actually, that might make sense if something else had happened nearby.

EDIT unconfirmed report he drove into two girls outside another school, 20 minutes earlier.

This is the second article I've read this morning that refers to a 23 year old woman being hurt, not 53 year old. -

A 12-year-old boy who died when a car mounted a pavement in a 'deliberate' hit and run outside a school is pictured for the first time today.

The pupil, named locally as Harley Watson, was killed and five others were injured when a vehicle ploughed into students near Debden Park High School in Loughton yesterday afternoon.

Tributes have been paid to victim Harley Watson today on social media

[...] One of the youngsters hurt in the crash told the BBC he heard a car 'revving' behind him before it sped on to the pavement. The boy said he believed the incident was deliberate.

Police also revealed checks were being made to see if there is a connection to a similar incident, reported to be at Roding Valley High School, also in Loughton, earlier in the day.

[...]

Later there were reports of a small car engulfed in flames on the M11 near Loughton about an hour after the incident. It is not known if it was linked to the events outside the school.

[...]

East of England Ambulance Service sent 15 ambulances and 10 other vehicles, while three air ambulances were mobilised.

Two 15-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and the 23-year-old woman were also hurt.

[...]

Armed police could be seen outside a home on the corner of Newmans Lane and Hatfields in Loughton, where neighbours said Glover lived alone.

Victim says car 'sped up and drove on to pavement'
A 15-year-old boy who was injured in the incident said he heard a car "revving" behind him before it sped up and mounted the pavement.

The boy, who also attends Debden Park High School, is being treated for injuries to his arm, back, leg and head in hospital. He said everything "really hurt", especially his leg.

The GCSE student, who is accompanied by his mother in hospital, told the BBC he was walking with his friend, who was thrown over the bonnet of the car. He said his friend was in hospital.

He said the Ford KA deliberately aimed for them but does not remember much more.

Just horrific! RIP Harley. What a beautiful boy.

Will this be classified as an act of terrorism I wonder? I don't know the criteria to call it terrorism. It seems completely random.

It looks like motive is important for it to be terrorism:

Terrorism is the use or threat of action, both in and outside of the UK, designed to influence any international government organisation or to intimidate the public. It must also be for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause.

A 51-year-old man from Loughton has been arrested on suspicion of murder. It emerged today that the man was sleeping in his car in a pub car park when he was detained.

Today, staff at the Merry Fiddler, in the village of Fiddler's Hamlet, near Epping, Essex, told how they were locking up when they saw a car matching the description of the one used in the hit and run in the car park.

Roy James, 68, whose son is the pub's landlord, said: 'All the windows were steamed up and it looked like the bloke was asleep but we didn't know how long it had been there for.

'We saw it from the pub. We didn't go outside. We didn't get a look at the bloke, we just watched the car from the pub window.

'We have no idea how long he was there for. This was about 10pm when we notified the police.

'The hit-and-run happened ten minutes up the road. He could have sped straight from there.

Thank you LB. So we will have to wait what he has to say.
