The family of missing man Jamie Moreno are appealing for information as they face a third Christmas without him.

Jamie left his home in the Roath, Cardiff around lunchtime on Monday 23 March 2020 and was last seen by a friend in Llanedeyrn later that afternoon.

It is believed Jamie left his home in The Parade sometime after 1.15pm and was seen by a friend at about 2.45pm later that day on Llanedeyrn Road.

CCTV from a nearby school confirms this as the last sighting of him.

Jamie took his phone and wallet with him, but his bank cards haven’t been used since that day which is a cause for concern.

Jamie is approximately 5ft 9 and usually wears a beanie hat.

He may also have had a beard at the time he went missing.

His family say he has a distinctive walk that would be recognised by those who knew him.

South Wales Police Missing Persons Investigator PC Andy Ryan said:

“Once again this is particularly difficult time for Jamie’s family who have never given up hope finding him.
“If you have seen Jamie, or if you know where he is, please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police by one of the following means, quoting ref: 2000102586.

In an emergency, always phone 999

A couple of comments from someone local but unconnected with the case; a mix of local knowledge and a bit of speculation as there isn't a huge amount about this case which is published.

- the case didn't get much attention when he first went missing because 23/3/20 was the day the UK went into the first covid lockdown. Not much else got press coverage. Chances are it affected the initial police response too.
- we have no information as to whether lockdown affected his state of mind; it was an acutely stressful time for many people.
- we don't know if he had any pre-existing vulnerabilities; there is no mention of his occupation, or really anything about his background other than that he has two adult daughters.
- Cardiff is a midsize city and the capital of Wales (pop 360,000).
- The road he was living on, The Parade, is on the edge of the city centre. Most of the buildings there are non-residential (e.g. university, college, dentist, day nursery, solicitors, various offices).
- the trip from his home to the last sighting took a maximum of 1h20. It is a two mile journey, and easily walkable or it could be done by public transport, bike or car.
- Llanederyn is a bit of a rough area, but not so rough that I would lock my car doors to go through it. We don't know if he had any connections there or why he was heading in that direction. He was captured on CCTV on Llanederyn Road which confirms the sighting (school CCTV; presumably Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern). However Llanederyn Road isn't part of Llanederyn itself - it's a perfectly nice road - but it does suggest he may have been heading towards the rougher area around Llanederyn Drive.
- Llanederyn Road isn't far from the Rhymney River, which leads quite directly to the sea. I'm not sure if it's fast enough to carry a body, and there has been no mention of underwater searches. It's common for people who go missing in Cardiff to turn up in the (larger, more central) River Taff, but that has the Cardiff Bay Barrage which is a bit of a filter point before making into the sea; the Rhymney River does not have that advantage.

New information from the family

In summary,
- lockdown affected the police response and it took a very long time to get phone and bank records
- the family are organising a search in the nearby woods and river next month, and believe they're looking for remains
- he took the death of his mother, 3 years before he went missing, badly, and the family link his disappearance to this
- he hadn't been to work for 2 months before he disappeared
- they describe him as reclusive, impulsive, and liking his home comforts

We can confirm a body has been found in woodland in #Pentwyn #Cardiff.

Police were called at 10.42am today (Sunday, March 12) following the discovery by a community search party looking for long-term missing man, Jamie Moreno.

Formal identification of the body has yet not been carried out as enquiries are on-going at the scene.

The family of Jamie Moreno are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
