Police hunting for a double murder suspect are now investigating the discovery of a third body.

A woman’s body was discovered on Newbold Comyn near Leamington Spa at around noon today (Thursday) and West Midlands Police says it has information which suggests Anthony Russell may be connected to the death.

*Russell's age has been corrected to 38.

Third body found as Coventry murder investigation intensifies

New from the DM:

Man, 38, is charged with triple murder of mother, 58, her son, 32, and missing woman, 31 | Daily Mail Online

"A 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been bailed with conditions.

The causes of Julie and David's deaths are yet to be established, and post-mortems are due to take place in due course.

Russell has links to Coventry as well as Warwickshire and he sometimes sleeps rough and is a drug user.

Mrs Williams was discovered at her flat at Emily Smith House, Riley Square, just before 11pm on Sunday.

The discovery of her body followed concerns for her welfare.

Mr Williams, who lived with his mother, was last seen on October 20 and reported missing on Saturday evening.

He was found dead at a nearby flat, also in Riley Square, at around 11.30pm on Monday. "

I misread that and thought it was Russell who'd been bailed after being charged with 3 murders!

So I didn't realise police had arrested another man on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. I wonder when that arrest was made.

ETA - I've just seen it was mentioned in the second post of this thread.

Unlawful wounding/inflicting GBH – s.20 and wounding/causing GBH with intent – s.18
Offences against the Person, incorporating the Charging Standard | The Crown Prosecution Service

The distinction between s18 and s20 the two offences is one of mens rea:

  • The prosecution must prove under section 20 that either the defendant intended, or actually foresaw, that the act might cause some harm. It is not necessary to prove that the defendant either intended or foresaw that the unlawful act might cause physical harm of the gravity described in section 20. It is enough that the defendant foresaw some physical harm to some person, albeit of a minor character might result: R v Savage; DPP v Parmenter [1992] 1 AC 699.
  • The prosecution must prove under section 18 that the defendant intended to wound and/or cause grievous bodily harm, and nothing less than an intention to produce that result, which in fact materialised, will suffice. A person ‘intends’ to cause a result if he/she consciously acts in order to bring it about. Factors that may indicate specific intent include a repeated or planned attack, deliberate selection of a weapon or adaptation of an article to cause injury, such as breaking a glass before an attack, making prior threats or using an offensive weapon against, or kicking, the victim’s head. The gravity of the injury may be the same for section 20 or 18 although the gravity may indicate the intention of the defendant.
The maximum sentence for section 20 is five years’ imprisonment. For section 18 it is life imprisonment. Intent may often be a trial issue where section 18 is charged, and will often rely on inference, but proof by inference is proof nonetheless, and where there is sufficient evidence for a jury to be sure of this intention this should be left to a jury.

Russell, 38, of Riley Square, Coventry, is also accused of a car-jacking and a section 18 wounding that took place in Leamington on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A post mortem for Julie, David and Nicole proved inconclusive and further tests will be carried out to understand the exact cause of their deaths."
