There's not really anywhere to go in cumbernauld that late at night except asda.

Well, the direction she was heading in, towards the Muirfield Centre is close by Asda, though at 3am I doubt she was just popping out to pick up a few essentials!

If she carried on past onto the A8011 she would come to Cumbernauld House Park and allotments.

I can't access international websites while at work, but can someone please clarify for me - who was she last seen by? Are we taking a husbands word for her last sighting? Does she have children? A job?

I haven't seen an answer to any of those questions. They certainly aren't answered in the official police appeal, but that is normal in the UK.

New Lanarkshire Police appeal

We are continuing to appeal for the help of the public to trace Karen Stevenson, 42, who has been reported missing from Cumbernauld

She left her home in Lairds Hill, Seafar, sometime after midnight on Saturday, 19 February, 2022. She is believed to have gone towards the town centre and was seen around 2.44am in a lift at the shopping centre off Tryst Road.

Officers believe she then walked towards the Muirfield Community Centre near Brown Road and Fleming Road and was there around 2.55am.

Karen is described as 5ft 1ins, of slim build, with long brown hair. She was wearing a purple parker-style jacket with a black fur-lined hood, a cream long sleeve t-shirt, black leggings, and black ankle boots. She also may be carrying a small pink handbag decorated with metal studs and with a chain strap.

Sergeant Greig McKail said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Karen’s welfare as this is completely out of character. If anyone has any information which may assist or has seen anyone matching her description, please call us.

“She was wearing a distinctive purple jacket with a black fur-trimmed hood so we are asking anyone who might have private CCTV or doorbell-footage showing where Karen went after she was in the Fleming Road area to get in touch.

“Likewise, anyone who was driving in the town centre and the areas where Karen has been seen and who might have dash-cam footage that could assist please let us know.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3369 of Saturday, 19 February.

Given the timeline we've been told, I'm assuming Karen left home between midnight and approximately 2.30am, because the walk from her home to the lift near Tryst Road is roughly 15 minutes. She then appears to go back on herself toward the Muirhead Community centre/Fleming Road area.

Was Karen heading back home? Why didn't she make it back? I really hope people are checking their doorcams, CCTV and dashcams ASAP

If I was investigating this I'd start by looking at Karen's bank account activity recently, for any big or repeated cash withdrawals out of the ordinary. Phone activity, any unusual calls noted by family recently, any threatening messages or texts. Did Karen take her phone with her that night?

I feel like there's a few possible directions this could go. I hope Karen is okay

I am curious as to how around 2.30am she can access a lift in a shopping centre? To my knowledge they are all locked overnight.

There are two centres in the vicinity, the Cumbernauld Centre and the Antonine Shopping Centre. Not sure which one she was allegedly in.

I also thought that was odd so I had a look around on Google maps. I think it's actually a lift from the bridge/car park area. You can see it from Tryst Road

Don't know if I'm linking this correctly - link
Link?
Edited-I don't know how to link it but the dropped pin coordinates are 55.948034,-3.987545

Could Karen have been meeting someone? Does she know anyone who lives in the Carbrain area? If she had prearranged to meet someone maybe it didn't go to plan, maybe she stood up to them or had a change of heart and set off back home, but was intercepted before she made it back.

I also considered the possibility Karen was making her way to Cumbernauld railway station but it doesn't appear there are any services running before 06:17am today, so presuming this was also the case on the day Karen went missing, she'd have been waiting around for several hours before the first train.

My opinion only.

I don't know how to screenshot and upload an image sorry. If you Google the coordinates 55.948034,-3.987545 and use satellite view, you'll see where I mean. The lift is connected to a bridge, between the two shopping centres

ETA - if you then use street view on Tryst Road, you'll see the staircase and lift in the middle of it
