The tiny coffin, dressed in a light, multicoloured shroud, was carried into St John's Church, in Birkdale, near Southport - the church where she was baptised - on the shoulders of four men.
This morning, Elsie's family paid tribute to their 'amazing and truly unforgettable' daughter ahead of her funeral.
At her funeral today, her teachers and classmates spoke of a girl who made 'everybody laugh' and always had the 'prettiest socks'.
The coffin was carried from the church by pallbearers wearing Taylor Swift bracelets, while the trembling voice of a lone singer recited Love Story - one of Elsie's favourite songs.
A funeral is held for seven-year-old Elsie who was killed in a knife attack in Southport. Words are shared by her teacher, as well as the Deputy Chief Constable of Merseyside Police.
"Councillors will hold an extraordinary meeting later to address the impact of the Southport stabbings on the Merseyside town.
The Sefton Council meeting will also be an opportunity for the area’s elected representatives to formally offer condolences to the families affected, and to thank the emergency services.
The meeting will be the first time councillors have convened since the killings and will take place before the official full council meeting.
It will also include a statement from the mayor of Sefton and will acknowledge the bravery and help offered by members of the general public – not only during the stabbing but also in supporting people and communities afterwards."
