''In 2006, 26-year-old Leicestershire mum Malgorzata Wnuczek went missing.

It has now been 15 years since she was last seen by her daughter.

Gosia, as she was affectionately known by her family is one of many people still missing in Leicestershire.

She had caught a bus from her workplace at Peter Jackson Logistics in Sunningdale Road in Leicester into the city centre.

There have been no sightings of her since May 31 that year.

Gosia's daughter, Ola, was just three years old when she vanished and would have recently turned 18-years-old.''

''Gosia, as she was known by her family, had regular contact with her parents, Ryszard and Bozena Smolka, who live in Poland. The last contact with them was a text message sent on 29 May 2006.

Gosia, if you are there and able to see us, please talk to us. Give us a sign that you are still alive. Ola is now 13 years old and wants to see you, she misses you so much.''

''Police who have been searching a river in relation to a woman who has been missing for 17 years say they are now treating her disappearance as a murder investigation. Polish national Malgorzata Wnuczek went missing in 2006.

Detective Inspector Jenni Heggs from Leicestershire Police has been leading the inquiry for the past two years after it had been filed in 2013 after all lines of inquiry were exhausted. However, it was reopened earlier this year when new information was received from the Polish authorities.''

''That led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man from the Greater Manchester area. It has also led to a search of the River Soar between Mill Lane and Upperton Road in Leicester on Tuesday, June 6. Specialist officers are using "sonar technology" and other equipment to look for traces of Malgorzata in the river.

DI Heggs told LeicestershireLive : "We are looking for any information or evidence that may assist us with our inquiries. That may include a body or human remains and that is what is part of the search in the water today.''

''Meanwhile, it is believed the answers to the unsolved case "lie within the Polish community" and the force has renewed an appeal asking anyone with information to come forward. "No matter how insignificant you think it might be it may just be that missing piece of the jigsaw that we're looking for that may be able to help us find Malgorzata and bring some closure for her family," DI Heggs said.''

''Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Jenni Heggs of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) said: "Malgorzata was 27 when she was last seen. Two days ago it was her 44th birthday.

"Officers both in the UK and in Poland have remained in contact with her family since she was last seen.

"Following information provided to us by our Polish colleagues, we are carrying out a search of the River Soar in the hope we might find something that can help us to establish Malgorzata's whereabouts.

"Since the investigation began, more than 2,000 potential witnesses have raised more than 2,500 lines of enquiry, with more than 100 statements taken. But we still do not know where Malgorzata is or what might've happened to her.

"However, I firmly believe there are people out there who do. For more than 17 years, her family have lived their lives in darkness and we owe it to them to answer the questions they have."

''But the force has now announced searches of the River Soar have commenced following new information from their Polish colleagues.

It has also confirmed a 39-year-old man has been arrested in Greater Manchester on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

The river search is being carried out by specialist officers from East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) near the Mill Lane Bridge, close to the centre of Leicester.''

''Malgorzata Wnuczek first came to Leicester from Poland in 2005 with her then-husband and her daughter, Aleksandra, known as Ola, aged two. She kept in regular contact with relatives back home, including her parents Ryszard and Bozena Smolka, to whom she was affectionately known as Gosia. But in May 2006, Malgorzata, had failed to contact her family for several months, prompting them to report her missing to Polish police.''

''During police inquiries, officers traced numerous properties Malgorzata had links to. It was believed she lived “out of a couple of carrier bags”, police said. She had a string of temporary addresses but a shared house in Mill Lane, Highfields is believed to have been her last address.''
