Translated from Italian:

Marco Pannone, 25-year-old Italian from Fondi, in the province of Latina, is in a coma after being punched and beaten outside London pub. (…) The causes that led to the attack are still unclear. The Italian is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of King's College Hospital where he was hospitalized and operated on with the removal of a part of his skull cap in a desperate attempt to save him.

It is still a mystery what happened on the night between Friday and Saturday in Brixton, a neighborhood in the south-west area of the City. The family in Italy was notified on Saturday morning, around 10am via Facebook, by a friend of the young man. A shocking message to Marco’s older sister said that he had been attacked, taken to the hospital and was very ill. The London police are working on the case, while the embassies are in contact to give news to family members and make inquiries about Marco's movements after his arrival in England.

Londra, 25enne di Fondi picchiato fuori da un pub a Londra. È in coma

Why didn’t police inform the Italian embassy/consulate, if they couldn’t get hold Marco’s family in Italy?

Some translated extracts from the article below:

The family in Italy was notified on Facebook by a friend on Saturday morning around 10; a shocking message arrived on the older sister's profile saging only that Marco had been attacked, that he had been taken to the hospital and was very ill. Neither his sister nor his parents had their passports ready. So the first to leave for England was uncle Massimo, a chef. ”As soon as I landed I went to the hospital - says Massimiliano his voice broken by tears - A kind doctor explained to me that Marco's conditions were very serious. That he arrived in desperate conditions and they had to remove part of the skull cap to try to reduce the pressure and save his life”. But that's where the information ends. Marco's relatives (yesterday his parents also landed at Gatwick airport) are unable to find out anything.

”The Consulate didn't know anything about what happened, I informed them - Massimiliano continues - Also almost no information from the London police. The officer handling the case has gone on vacation, left me a colleague's email and the crime record number.'

Who is the victim
Marco Pannone is 25 years old and moved to London about 6 years ago. "He only returned to Italy for some time when Brexit came into force to arrange all the necessary documents - explains his uncle - he worked as a barman in hotels, bars and pubs without ever having problems. We can't get information, it's absurd - says the uncle - Is it possible that there were no cameras inside or outside the club?". And again: ”Why doesn't anyone help us? We have also been completely abandoned by the Italian institutions. We asked the Consulate for help, even an interpreter because we don't speak the language. They took our data and then sent me an email saying they didn't have any staff available and therefore to contact the English police”.

My heart goes out to this man and his family. I hope his case is being taken very seriously and the only issue is a language barrier which London police will quickly resolve. It sounds like they really need to reach out to this family who are extra vulnerable due to the language barrier and living in another country. IMO.

''Marco Pannone, a kickboxing expert, is a waiter: he had invited a customer to leave because the place was closing. Struggle between life and death in the intensive care unit of King’s College Hospital

A 25-year-old Italian from Fondi, in the province of Latina, is in a coma after suffering a beating outside a pub in London. Massacred in punches and left on the ground at the back of the club. The boy’s name is known – Marco Pannon, nephew of the chef of a well-known Roman restaurant – but the causes that led to the attack by the Italian are still to be clarified. It would seem that Marco was attacked outside the place where he works as a waiter following an argument with a customer who did not want to leave the pub that was closing''

Updates translated from article below. Police were alerted 2 HOURS after the assault!

Editorial staff of London ONE Radio called the Metropolitan Police who gave more details on the case:

Police were called at 00.10 on Saturday 3 December following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted on Ferndale Road, SW9.

The victim was working in a restaurant on Ferndale Road at about 11.10pm on Friday 2 December when two unknown men approached him and engaged in conversation.

One of the men then punched the victim in the face, knocking him over and causing his head to hit the pavement. The two suspects fled in the direction of Nursery Road.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

He remains in the hospital in an induced coma.

His family was informed on Saturday 3 December and since then they have met the investigating agents of the CID in the central-southern area.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation continues.

There’s a pizza restaurant almost on the corner between Ferndale Rd and Nursery Rd. It closes at 11pm. Across the road there’s also a bar/bistro which closes at 2am. I cannot see any pub on Google map. There are some inconsistencies in the reporting and it’s not clear if he was hit by a customer or someone else. Let’s pray that he pulls through :(

Should we be surprised that the UK papers do not seem to have picked up this story, particularly the DM? imo
They have caught up with the news at last Waiter fighting for life after he was attacked by two drunk patrons

This Italian article states also that the operation was successful and Marco appears to be ‘out of danger’. It also explains that, after hitting his head, he got up and thought he was ok, and only an hour or so later he started to feel unwell, which would explain why ambulance and police were late on the scene. Apparently, the assault was caught on cctv and there are witnesses. Also, if the attacker had paid for earlier drinks by card, he should be traced in no time, one would hope. Marco Pannone, come sta il 25enne in coma: «Un pugno, poi ha battuto la testa»

Lol, ''ask and ye shall receive'' ...the DM!

From link, this looks like a lovely place and not one where you would expect to get hurt by a pair of violent fools.
Really hoping Marco pulls through this! rbbm.

''A friend of Marco called Carlo, told MailOnline: 'It was late and the place was closing but there were a few stragglers and Marco asked one of them to get up from his seat so he could close up.

'The next thing he was knocked to the ground in a really violent attack by two men and hit his head, initially he got up and seemed OK but then he collapsed to the floor again and that's when the ambulance was called.'

Uncle Massimiliano Sepe, who is the chef of a popular restaurant in Rome called Alfredo, said: 'We are just hoping and praying he pulls through. All we know is that he was the victim of a violent attack by two drunks and that's it.'

A source close to the family added: ’There is CCTV of the attack taking place and it is now with the police. We are hoping that with these images we can find the people responsible.’
