A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Charfield, South Gloucestershire, on Friday night, 24 June.

Grant Bradley, 46, of Blackwell Street, Kidderminster, has been charged with the murder of Marcus Dunkerton, 40, of Thames Close, Charfield. He is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Bradley is detained in police custody pending an appearance before Bristol Magistrates Court on Monday 27 June.

Police and ambulance crews were called Mr Dunkerton’s home just before 11pm on Friday. Sadly he could not be saved and died at the scene. Bradley was arrested just after 11.30pm.

A post mortem examination has found that Mr Dunkerton was stabbed several times, with one wound proving fatal.

We continue to gather evidence to help us understand what has happened. There are reports of an earlier incident involving the two men at the Railway Tavern in Wotton Road, Charfield. I’d ask anyone who was at the pub between 9pm and 11pm on Friday night to get in touch, if they haven’t yet spoken with officers.

“We’d also like to hear from anyone who saw or has CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of either man walking from the pub to Thames Close, or Bradley leaving that address.”

A man is starting a 23-year jail term after killing his friend. On Friday 29 September 2023 Grant Bradley, 46, of Blackwell Street, Kidderminster, was convicted of murder.

The jury heard that Bradley and Marcus Dunkerton, 40, had spent the evening at a pub in Charfield, South Gloucestershire, on Friday 24 June 2022.

Marcus was told to leave after a drunken row ended with him punching Bradley and pushing Bradley’s partner.

Bradley then went to Mr Dunkerton's home and stabbed him. Marcus’ partner called police and ambulance crews just before 11pm, but sadly he could not be saved.

In a statement his family said: "There isn’t a sentence that will make us feel better or bring Marcus back, but following a two-week harrowing trial, on Friday 29 September 2023 justice was finally served."

The accused described how he climbed on to Mr Dunkerton, grabbed his T-shirt and tugged him for a response, before punching him 'quite hard' four to seven times. Bradley said his knife fell out of his work shorts and he picked up the weapon.

Bradley admitted he stabbed Mr Dunkerton twice in the buttock to ensure he “felt hurt for a couple of weeks and unable sit down". But Bradley denied he wanted to seriously harm or kill his friend, the court heard.

“I didn’t go there to physically hurt him," said Bradley. "If that knife hadn’t have dropped out of my pocket, I would have never used it.“

Bradley said he did not recall seeing any blood around Mr Dunkerton and promptly returned home. From here, Bradley washed his now blooded and dirty work uniform and put the knife in the sink. The court has heard how Bradley washed his bloodied face before he was arrested by police.
