Police in Newtownabbey are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of missing man, 36 year old MARK GOURLEY and have reissued their appeal for information.

Last Seen

Mark, from the Castlemara area of Carrickfergus, was last seen in that vicinity around 9.30am on the morning of Saturday 7 March 2009.

He has had no contact with friends or family since then and police are concerned for his safety.

Mark, who is considered by police to be vulnerable, is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, of medium build, with fair cropped hair. His right eyebrow is pierced, and he has tattoos on his left shoulder and left forearm, and a tattoo on his right arm bearing his Christian name.

Mark was last seen wearing a black waterproof jacket with a grey design on the shoulders, black Umbro tracksuit bottoms, black leather trainers and a blue Rangers Football Club woollen hat.

Police in Newtownabbey are asking Mark, or anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact them immediately on 101 Non Emergency Number. Alternatively information may be passed anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.

Police murder hunt over missing man

Police have launched a murder inquiry after obtaining new evidence about the disappearance of a man four years ago.

A PSNI spokesman said: "As a result of new evidence, police have launched a murder investigation."

A senior detective is due to outline further details of the murder investigation tomorrow.

Man arrested in Mark Gourley murder investigation

Detectives investigating the murder of Mark Gourley who went missing from Glengormley seven years ago have arrested a 50-year-old man in Carrickfergus.

His body has not been located.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday morning in Carrickfergus and has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning.

Detective Inspector Darren McCartney said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have information about Mark’s disappearance or who may have seen Mark on or after 7 March 2009 to contact police.

Police are asking for anyone who may have noticed vehicles or individuals acting suspiciously in either the Burney’s Lane area of Glengormley or in the Castlemara area of Carrickfergus around 7 March 2009 to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.

DI McCartney added: “I believe there are people in these communities who have knowledge of what happened to Mark. Today’s police activity is proof that police are continuing to investigate what happened to him.

"Additionally, people may have heard rumours about what happened to Mark. I would appeal to them to share this information with police. If anyone has information about him, I would ask them to examine their conscience and come forward to police. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by telephoning 0800 555 111.”

Police carry out searches in connection with George Gilmore and Mark Gourley murder investigations

Police have conducted searches in Co Antrim in the last two days in connection with two separate murder investigations.

The searches in the Castlemara and Carrickfergus areas were in relation to the deaths of Mark Gourley in 2009 and George 'Geordie' Gilmore in March this year.

On Monday, a house in the Castlemara area was searched in relation to Mr Gourley’s death. He went missing from Glengormley in 2009.

Police seized a number of items.

Mark Gourley: Man released in murder inquiry

A 50-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the murder of County Antrim man Mark Gourley has been released from custody unconditionally.

He was detained in Carrickfergus on Tuesday morning and taken to a Belfast police station for questioning.
