"Police have declared a major incident after people were injured in a large explosion at a water recycling centre in Bristol.

The explosion is believed to have involved chemical tanks at Wessex Water’s Bristol water recycling centre in Avonmouth''.

“We were joined at the scene by our police and ambulance colleagues and have now handed over the incident to the police and continue to support our multi-agency partners.”

A spokesman for South Western ambulance service added: “We sent multiple resources to the scene, including land, air and other specialist paramedic teams.”

People who work near the site reported hearing a loud explosion.

One witness said they saw about 10 ambulances heading to the site, while another said nearby buildings shook.''

'''A 16-year-old boy was one of four people killed in an explosion at a waste-water treatment works near Bristol on Thursday, it has been revealed.

Police identified the four as Michael James, 64, Brian Vickery, 63, Raymond White, 57, and Luke Wheaton, 16.

A fifth person was injured in the blast, and is recovering from their injuries at home, Avon and Somerset Police said.''

''The blast happened in a silo that held treated biosolids before they are recycled to land as an organic soil conditioner.

Police said when it is appropriate, investigators will speak to the survivor, and cordon at the site is likely to remain in place in the coming days as an investigation into the cause of the incident is carried out.''
