I really shouldn't have watched those statements whilst in a public place.
How dignified were both sets of family. It was touching to see DW supported by his girlfriend.
It is a shame that the families couldn't be united in their grief for Becky and desire to see justice and it did seem as though swipes were being made at how the other party managed their grief process which is a shame.
It's interesting that DW/TW statement mentions how Becky was described - they used words which I hadn't heard be used to describe Becky so I am guessing that is some of the evidence which was embargoed...
Kudos to the FLO who read out that statement - I wouldn't have been able to remain so composed..
AG looks like a broken woman - if NM really ever had her best interests at heart he would never have put her through any of this

BIB Yes, definately there was a message there. But I did like Tanya Watts family statement. She gave a lovely picture of Becky and helped to counteract some of the nasty comments that have been quoted in court.

He was a former Territorial Army soldier who pretended to suffer the debilitating condition fibromyalgia which left him so weak he couldn’t hang out washing. In fact, it was just yet another lie to cover his laziness. Brutish Matthews was more than physically capable of inflicting pain on others.

Heartbreaking. Epecially with DG saying he had loved NM as his own son. And losing 4 stone in weight

So true. We - and everyone else who has followed this case - are all delighted for the verdicts and happy to see justice has been well and truly done.
Becky's family however, now have to face the almost impossible task of putting their lives back together. The past 9 months, culminating in the trial, will have given them a strength and adrenalin to get through the days.
Now I wish each of them strength to carry on and live with the aftermath and to hold Becky in their hearts and their memories.

Yes, that backs up what Retribution said, that certain people would be feeling regrets about letting Becky down or not protecting her well enough, or wtte.

A morgue? I thought they were army lockers or something , why would he be in a morgue?
Not to dilute his words, and I understand why he said it ... but I hate it when people describe depraved, evil human beings as 'animals'. It's an insult to animals, who in my opinion are for the most part innocent creatures who live by instinct, not malice or a premeditated desire to inflict suffering on others. It's one of the reasons I tend to like animals more than humans!

I agree with that. I have been wondering if there were signs for years that NM was evil, and capable of such crimes? I'm sure people saw things, but like most of us, probably just that, he is strange, but didn't think he would be capable of doing such horrible things? There had to be things that bothered people. I feel like I'm a forgiving person, and no matter how logical I would try to put things in perspective, how hard it must be for Becky's father to be married to NM mother. She helped raise Becky, and she certainly appears to be a nice woman, and the two of them have been married for awhile. But, human nature, somewhere in the back of dad's mind there must be anger or some feelings about the situation. I mean no harm by this statement, and I feel horrible for AG. She is a sickly woman, and this must be so unbearable, to think your child could do this to another human being.
