BUT??? I thought the house was in SH's name only and NM was listed as living elsewhere. That means that ALL of SH's benefits would be paid into SH's bank account. As would her child benefit.

Perhaps he had her bank card and used it or let her use it. If the relationship was abusive like she says then I think this would be a possibility.

that's their bedroom then, seen through/behind the ladder. there is a metal bar across the door frame with a bag hanging on it. I thought that was a cupboard its so chocka
