A 34-year-old ski worker has appeared at court this morning charged with the murder of businesswoman Sadie Hartley.

Sarah Williams, 34, of Blacon, Chester, is accused of killing the mother-of-two who was found stabbed to death at her home in Helmshore, Lancashire, on Friday evening.

The successful businesswoman was found stabbed to death in the hallway of the £450,000 home she shared with Mr Johnston in the village of Helmshore, Lancashire, on Friday night.

She is thought to have been viciously attacked after answering the door. She suffered a series of knife wounds to her arms and hands and was repeatedly stabbed in the body. Bleeding profusely, she collapsed and died.

Lancashire Police are continuing to investigate several lines of enquiry relating to the murder.

A constabulary spokesman today confirmed to MailOnline that one of those is the theory that Ms Hartley was part of a love triangle.

Speaking earlier in the week, a police source said: ‘We are looking at the theory the victim was part of a love triangle and was targeted at her home because of this.

A second woman has been charged with the murder of businesswoman Sadie Hartley, Lancashire police have said.

Katrina Walsh, 55, from Chester, will appear at Blackburn Magistrates' Court this morning, a day after another woman, 34-year-old Sarah Williams, appeared in the same court on the same charge.

Both accused will now appear at Preston Crown Court tomorrow.

One point I found a bit strange.

When Sadie's colleagues could not reach her last Friday, they called the police to investigate. Now, maybe this is just me, but if I cant reach a friend or work colleague, I would be going round to their house, not phoning the police.

Also, police seem to have moved very fast in this case, with the two arrests. Obviously a lot of info has not been released, for them to be so sure, so quickly.

ONE of the women charged with the murder of 60-year-old businesswoman Sadie Hartley collapsed to the floor when she appeared before a judge for the first time.

Judge Mark Brown decided that the hearing would continue in Walsh's absence and instructed defence barrister Mark Stuart to relay a summary to her.

Prosecutor Francis McEnte said the prosecution would rely on CCTV evidence, Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, mobile phone pinpointing and forensics.

He said: "There's a broad range of evidence in this case the Crown will rely on.

"It is our case this was a meticulously planned, ruthlessly executed murder."

Neither women entered pleas.

Both women will next appearance Preston Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on May 4.

A trial will take place before Justice Turner on July 4.

The prosecution has until March 10 to serve the bulk of its case, although more evidence is expected later.

The defence statements must be in by April 7.

I had thought that, perhaps, this was a planned burglary with SW believing that the occupants were both away.

But it does now seem, from the prosecution statement, that it was a pre planned murder. Horrific.

A court heard how two friends from a horse riding stable plotted for months to kill businesswoman Sadie Hartley– even travelling to Germany to buy a taser gun. Sarah Williams, 34, and Katrina Walsh, 55, are charged with the murder of Ms Hartley in her home in Helmshore, Lincolnshire on 14 January.

They are said to have planned to attack the director of a medical support company when she was alone at her £450,000 stone built house. The 60-year-old's partner, a former firefighter, was on a skiing holiday in Switzerland at the time of the murder.

Britain's number plate recognition technology is amazing. I watch a British true crime show, "A Town and Country Murder," on youtube. In season 3, there's an episode about the Stephen Murphy murder. When police initially thought the murderer(s) came from a certain town, they were able to get a list of all vehicles that that driven from that town to the area of the murder during a certain time frame. They eliminated all of those. When new evidence pointed to a specific person, they were able to track the suspect's vehicle driving to the area of the murder and back home again.

Interesting plea. The fact that they were arrested so quickly after the murder seemed to point to the police having substantial evidence against both of them, including proof of pre meditation.
Unless their plea will be that they did carry out the killing but deny murder ?

Mr McDermott said what happened next was ‘truly shocking’.
He said as Sadie opened the door Sarah Williams lunged at her with a stun gun - ‘the sort of thing used to prod cattle’.
Mr McDermott told the jury that Williams pressed it against Sadie’s head and incapacitated her and then ‘with what can only be described as demonic savagery’ attacked her with the knife.
She ‘stabbed and slashed at this unfortunate woman, blow after blow, causing appalling and fatal injuries’
