The court heard that at a post-mortem examination the pathologist Nathaniel Carey was unable to ascertain the precise cause of death, but said it was likely to be unnatural.

The coroner offered his sincere condolences to Sara's family and suspended the inquest until 29 February.

Nobody from her family was present at the inquest opening.

"unable to ascertain the precise cause of death, but said it was likely to be unnatural" - too ambiguous IMO.

"Police in Pakistan widen search for Sara Sharif's family after receiving 'new information' - as schoolgirl's cause of death remains a mystery."

When was the last time Sara was seen alive again? Some of this wording (Aug 10th 'not necessarily time of death', and the delay in COD ruling) makes me wonder if she had been deceased for longer than expected. JMO.
This may also be why they're still appealing for information and aren't providing any further details on her injuries (although this could be because they don't want the suspects to know what they've found, I suppose). They may have determined that she was deceased for longer than initially thought, and therefore be trying to piece together information about when she was last seen, when the family were last seen, whether the family said anything unusual in the days leading up to their disappearance, etc.

JMO.

Besides, it was reported that her mother did NOT recognize Sara.

Yes, she hadn't seen her for a long time, but still!

DNA was needed to identify her.

Some say it is a formal requirement, but IMO, the girl was in terrible state :(
Unrecognizable!

I believe that there's specific regulations around who can identify a body. Her mother hadn't seen her for 4 years so didn't meet those requirements.

This doesn't necessarily mean that her body was badly decomposed.

They'll want to have the case legally watertight, and DNA identification is a good way to achieve that.

Hafiz Hashmi, the head imam of the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking, said the whole community was upset and wanted "justice to be served".
He described Pakistani police and the system in Pakistan as "questionable" and he said bribery was very common, but he urged Mr Sharif to contact police.
Mr Hashmi said: "Without investigation, we can't blame anyone, we can't say anything. But as a father, it is his responsibility. It is his duty, duty of care. He should come forward and speak with the Pakistani police and the UK authorities."

I am not sure you got my meaning.
Polish uncle said clearly that mother did NOT recognize her OWN daughter.
Mother is in terrible state, on meds.

Can you please link? As far as I can see it was not reported that her mother could not identify her.

It is likely that DNA was used as Sara may have been in a state of decomposition and or the injuries may have been so severe that no parent needs to see that.

I do not believe that the police would allow a parent to see a body in such a condition. I believe that something may have been lost in translation here.

She was identified by comparing her DNA with that of her mother Olga Sharif.

DNA comparisons are now being conducted to confirm Sara’s identity.

Her mother Olga could not be used to identify Sara as she has not seen her for four years and her identification would therefore not have meet the requirements of the coroner.

"Olga is in a bad way at the moment, she is taking sleeping pills and sedatives to cope with the situation. She is in a bad mental state. It's very difficult to describe. Our mother went to be with Olga to support her.

After she saw Sara's body, she was devastated'."

It was reported that Sara's uncle (Olga's brother) said Olga couldn't recognise Sara at the autopsy and DNA testing was required. It may be that this is due to Olga not meeting the criteria for identification, however it does seem to suggest something different when read as part of the full quote...

"He must be held accountable for his actions. I don't want to say what we wish for him. We cannot understand how he could treat his own child this way, how could he treat her body this way. This act was inhuman.

In case of an accident people seek help, they call an ambulance. The autopsy showed bruises. Olga couldn't recognise her daughter. They had to do a DNA test. We hope they capture him. Urfan’s second wife, who was taking care of the children, is responsible for allowing this to happen too."

my experience is that they can advise you not to view the body, however I don’t think they are able to stop you if you choose to.

I do not think DNA was required b/c mother "does not meet the criteria".

We are talking about MOTHER and her CHILD.

Olga's brother was very explicit what happened.

Police summoned mother to do the identification.

But I understand that some ppl may want to downplay what happened during the identification.

It is simply too much.

But we have already discussed this matter.
And I stated my opinion and it still holds.

Everything concerning this case is horrendous.
Repulsive.

Police have confirmed forensic teams will remain at two Surrey addresses as part of an investigation into the murder of Sara Sharif. The 10-year-old's body was found alone in a house in Horsell, near Woking, on August 10.

Today (August 31), Surrey Police has said officers will remain at the Horsell home, as well as at another property in Byfleet. This ongoing presence is to allow specialist teams to search the properties and carry out forensic enquiries, a spokesperson said.

I really don't like the sound of this part.

There have been far too many cases of dismemberment, attempts to destroy by fire etc and I am really hoping that nothing like that happened to this poor young girl
