I was intending to go to the vigil at Clapham Common tonight but it has been cancelled. I then thought I would take a walk there anyway to pay my respects in some way but I am actually too worried about the walk there and back. It is 2 miles and I am afraid to walk alone. If the vigil had been taking place I would have summoned the courage and was thinking there may be more people around and feel safer. This has really affected my confidence. I do always worry about being attacked but I normally ignore those worries and go out because I love walking. I try to push down the feelings that it is dangerous because it shouldn’t be. I am aware this is not a useful post but it is just how I am feeling now. This case is absolutely horrendous and I wish I could have been there and stopped it happening.

I have a feeling we may get a guilty plea eventually from him ..I dont think he will be able to face court through a trial.
I'm praying he didn't keep her alive at his dads garage for any length of time

Still trying to catch up here.... is that the latest theory then: he took her to garage alive? Is that speculation or anything more to go on?

The reporting of WC's police career in the media is all a bit confused. My understanding of it is that he had been a police officer for about eight years with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC), protecting Dungeness Nuclear Power Station in Kent. It is also reported that WC was a special constable with the Kent Constabulary.

The CNC is one of a number of non-Home Officer forces in the UK that have the responsibility for protecting high risk sites and high risk road movements to and from those sites. The CNC are routinely armed and therefore this is how WC will have become an Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO).

As the CNC is not a Home Office force, WC would have been unable to apply for direct transfer to Met Pol. Essentially CNC does not provide the all round policing experience required of a police constable, it is very niche. Therefore WC 'should' have started as a probationary police constable, attended training school and completing two years probation before being confirmed as a constable. I have to wonder in these times of being able to join the Met Pol directly as a detective constable, whether WC bypassed normal probationary training and was recruited directly into the DaPD?

I have read that WC joined Met Pol in 2018 and served at Bromley in Kent (Met Police area). I don't know how accurate this is. Although it would mean that he would have become established sometime in 2020, when he would have become eligible to apply for specialist police roles.

What is unclear is if WC was able to retain his AFO authorisation with the Met Pol during his probationary period. Once this would have been very unusual but it may have come at a time of police shortages of AFO's, together with the increased terrorist threat and an officer who was already a qualified AFO was snapped up.

I hope that provides some clarity on the process that I am aware of.

Really helpful, thanks. It does seem a unusual way of doing things but I expect his CNC experience “fast tracked” his AFO status in the Met.

Indeed. Hopefully her arrest was just a precaution to get her out of the house and unable to (intentionally or unintentionally) tamper with any evidence.

I think/hope it was routine

I'm not an expert in decomposition. I am an archaeologist who has spent some time studying it though, and I would have expected a wrapped body, in cold temperatures to be recognizable after a week. It is hard to estimate without all available factors being known. How long had she been dead? Was she stored somewhere warmer and exposed for a time? Any injuries caused may have speeded decomposition. And so on.
However, the main reason I suspected that something had been done to her was the description of "human remains"rather than body.

Quite- the fact is none of us actually *know* that much at all - much of what is said is theory. What did or didn't happen to Sarah's body may be relevant to other cases and certain gives insight to the perp. Potentially he was trying to hide what he had done. The psychology is an interesting aspect to many people here.

This seems to be going ahead tonight in Barking

Sarah Everard: Candles to be lit at Barking town hall tomorrow

The town hall has announced it will light candles in memory of Sarah Everard tomorrow (Saturday, March 13) as an alternative to the Reclaim These Streets event.

People are invited to instead show their support by leaving a candle on the steps of the Barking Town Hall. The candles will be lit or turned on at 6pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Anyone who doesn’t live nearby is asked to light a candle at home to show their solidarity and share a photo on social media via the council’s or leader Darren Rodwell’s pages.

According to a law dictionary: Human remains are “The body of a deceased person, in whole or in parts, regardless of its stage of decomposition.”

I understand why someone would be confused by the terminology and with all the speculation I bet they hope they just said “a body”. Still doesn’t justify saying that we know that something was done to her body, that’s the point I’m trying to make. We’ve only been told that she was found, and she was identified through dental records. Not saying that you did that, but I’ve seen it enough that I had to comment.

As I have said before Sarah was the friend of a friend of my niece. I didn't know her but my niece was sharing all the missing posts. What saddens me today is obviously Sarah and also her family and friends. I am also extremely saddened for the accused's two children. There are some things that families can never recover from and sadly this is a prime example. A life ended and many others involved in that life ruined forever with realistically no chance of mental recovery. Just so awful. This can never be undone and many who loved her won't recover - all victims in my book.

There was a photo posted on social media showing a tent on the same spot the digger was on, just behind the concrete blocks. I can’t seem to find this photo on MSM though.

I saw the same. I have since found the stock video footage from the journalist, but can't link to it as it isn't MSM. Although it's not the original aerial footage I saw, showing the tent, it does show the tent at the driveway / gateway to the garage, just behind the bollards.

The bag from the Google Maps images does look familiar, and I definitely think should be sent to LE.

When the investigators were searching field behind their house...JMO MOO... forensics to ascertain that he took a bag from the property and walked through the field to the car, onwards to (the garage?) (then woods?)? Hope this is okay to post...

I am almost certain I saw overhead footage of the police activity / search at the Dover garage site, which showed a tent up by the shrubbery at the driveway entrance (on the right side, if you're facing the garage from the road, i.e. where this bag is situated in your images). Does anyone else recall? I've been trying to find the footage again and cannot remember where I saw it (would have been MSM). Will try to find it...
It’s one of the videos running at the top of this page.

BBC News - Sarah Everard: Wayne Couzens appears in court charged with murder
Sarah Everard: Wayne Couzens appears in court charged with murder "He appeared to have a red wound on his head and spoke quietly when asked to confirm his name, date of birth and address."

Looking at that sketch of him, he does not seem to have the air of arrogance & confidence that you see in some of the notorious serial killers (Criminologists reveal the five key traits common in serial killers | Daily Mail Online) - if he is indeed guilty, maybe/hopefully, there won't be any other bodies found, but IMO and as many have already said, I would not be surprised if there is a track record of IE/SA/flashing that has come from a place of insecurity/lacking confidence with women - an ex-landlady said he met his wife online from abroad - you would kind of expect that generally (IMO) a mechanic working for an established family business is more likely to be well-known and popular in his local area. Whereas before I thought the headbanging was out of anger at being caught, this sketch looks like a very weak man that now is scared to face a jail term, to take responsibility and the justice deserved for his actions, along with the fall out and knowing what friends/family/his children will be thinking of him.

Can I stress I do NOT feel sorry for him and not saying insecurity/lacking confidence with women is a pre-requisite for such a crime, but having watched true crime shows it is mentioned a lot. If he did commit this crime, he is indeed an evil person that does not deserve sympathy, but like many on here, just trying to understand why and how he could do something so horrific. Thank God, and it is good to remind ourselves, that most people on the planet want to try to protect and to preserve life, even if it meant risking their own - the absolute majority of the police force as well as people / the public in general. I would put money on it that in London that night 99.9% of men in the area would have gone all out to save her even if he had his gun on him, there are more good people in the world than bad. RIP Sarah, it is truly heart-breaking.

Re EC: MOO -- does anyone wonder if he told her he'd (accidentally) knocked someone over and had to cover the accident? So she knew something JMO although this was an absolute lie...and helped with materials...? (Hope this is okay to post)

It will be interesting to see what his plea is. I hope this ba#tard talks. It’s the least he can do!!

Why is it now he only tries to kill himself? Why not when he had these urges? What a narcissist

Imagine if he was never caught on that dashcam. No one would have ever known what happened to her or imagined she was so far away from where she went missing.

It begs the question, how often does this type of thing happen?! We are supposed to feel safe around police.
He had not been a police officer long.
The Conservatives have been talking about how brilliantly they are doing for increasing recruitment of police officers- police officers I know have for some time been concerned about how they are recruiting now as opposed to decades ago when they even used to assess you in a bar and how you managed your alcohol.
from this there will be a massive review of how officers are recruited.

Sarah Everard: Doorstep vigil at 9:30pm tonight to replace London event

A doorstep vigil for Sarah Everard will be held at 9:30pm on Saturday after an event in south London was cancelled following talks between its organisers and the police.
Campaign group Reclaim These Streets urged those who were planning to attend the Clapham Common gathering on Saturday evening to instead take part in the occasion from their homes.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the group said it would be joining people across the country and "shining a light - a candle, a torch, a phone - to remember Sarah Everard and all the women affected by and lost to violence".

I'm pretty surprised that a builders bag isn't universally common

I've been shopping and out of interest counted the number of houses with a bag clearly visible from the road - 8 including my own. Where I live building and garden work is going on all the time and the bags are all over.

No one would have any trouble in sourcing one after dark

I understand why someone would be confused by the terminology and with all the speculation I bet they hoped they just said “a body”.

In previous cases the term body has been used. Eg, if you google the finding of Joanna Yeates, that is the term used. The initial statement by Cassandra Dick which mentioned what they believed to be human remains, seemed carefully worded in every other way, so the phraseology led me to believe that there was some damage inflicted to SE. More recent news reports have used "body".
Maybe I am expecting academic rigour from police statements.
