He's very unlikely to try the insanity route IMO. Even when someone like Peter Sutcliffe tried that the jury didn't buy it. He'd have to prove somehow he had psychosis as in he lost touch with reality and was truly deluded. It would be very hard to argue for that if he planned things.

It does make me wonder whether he has had some sort of breakdown with psychosis. Sounds devastated about the garage. Maybe he wanted to keep it running for his dad and wife didnt want to because of having children and all the financial worry that comes with running a business.

Maybe he has held some sort of resentment against her and when his dad has died has had a breakdown of some description. Psychosis can completely change people, maybe that's why he has had time off work etc.

Just trying to get into the head of someone and figure out why someone who on the face of it is successful and has a lovely family life has turned into a murderer, it's like some sort of self destruction almost.
Wens, as a woman and as someone with a fair bit of experience in the field of mental health, could I make two requests please? Firstly, look up the medical definition of psychosis and familiarise yourself with it before you consider suggesting that the accused's actions can be attributed to it. Secondly, read your own post back and ask yourself whether speculatively attributing blame to the behaviour of the accused's wife is in any way, shape or form appropriate.

No, you're meant to be respectful of people who suffer with genuine mental ill health and not use terms like 'nice insanity bin or room'.

ETA - you seem to think there's not violence or revenge attacks in 'nice insanity bins' or that it would be an easier term than in a regular prison. I would beg to differ.
WC be getting a WF postcode for the rest of his ‘natural’ post trial please God

I imagine Sarah's family and friends are absolutely distraught about her name being used in this way.

This is not what Sarah would have wanted
I think we need to be careful sharing this as that website is known to be very one-sided in its views and coverage. If we're coming down on sites championing the other side for being more critical of policing and policy, we should probably be coming down on this one too for being very much in the other direction. That they chose to feature this perspective fits in with their remit, and I don't know if this is very relevant to the actual case itself.

.

The accused has not yet been tried and we don't know what the outcome will be. That will be for the trial to determine. JMO Gentle reminder about subjudice during this case. Discussion of possible sentencing could suggest assumption of guilt. So we still need to be careful how we discuss IMO.

As per Silly Billy at start of thread

"This case is now under sub-judice.

Under sub-judice, the following is not allowed:

Any non compliance with an Order of the court
Anything that may prejudice the accused’s right to a fair trial
Any suggestions or direct accusations that the accused is either guilty or innocent (i.e. the accused cannot be called "the killer", it has to be "alleged killer" or the defendant)
A defendant’s previous history of any offences
Scandalizing the court (disparaging judges/lawyers, any officer of the Court)
Broadcasting anything about proceedings which happen in the jury's absence.

Please do not post anything that violates the above principles.

Thank you.

ETA for reference: UK Contempt of Court Act 1981"

I agree, Stella123, but you're aiming at the wrong poster. I'm just lamenting the assumptions of young things on the value of life beyond 70!

All the signs point to some kind of diminished responsibility claim as why else did he rock to and fro this morning?

Rocking can be due to an overload of stress/anxiety and fear or sensory overload.
The rocking action itself usually serves as a 'self soothing' mechanism. (Usually an unconscious action, regressive, think of being cradled as an infant)
I wouldn't read too much into it or even suggest it's being done on purpose, or as a 'prop' to be used for insanity plea.
I've seen it many times in people who have suffered a loss, for instance.

@Audiohoney just as per my post yesterday CMW is definitely a carwash now, however it is not in use at the moment and there are lots of parked cars on the forecourt. I was driving so couldn't take a picture unfortunately.

There was a link to MSM yesterday that said one of the search areas was a building in Dover - I wondered if that might have been the car rental hire building. I'll see if I can find the link again.

Here it is

"The Metropolitan Police also carried out a search of a property in Dover on Wednesday (March 9)."

9th March was the day of arrest so could well be linked to the hire car/garage.

The 4 Kent towns at the centre of Sarah Everard searches

I think a letter written by Sarah's friend is very relevant showing their feelings about her name being used.

We have many times discussed loving memorials and vigils being set up for victims such as the beautiful bench the people of Hull created for Libby and was so appreciated by her family.

Yes. His first job with the police was covering Bromley in 2018.
Sarah Everard: Met PC Wayne Couzens charged with murder

That wasn't his first law enforcement job.
  • Born in Dover in 1973.
  • In 1990, he started working as a light-vehicle body repair technician at his family’s garage business BCB Dover
  • He was a member of the Army Reserves, serving in the 3rd battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, for two years from 2002, the Times reported.
  • BCB Dover closed in 2015. By then both he and a brother had become policemen:
  • In 2008, he became a traffic officer with Kent Police in Folkestone, Kent.
  • After leaving BCB Dover in 2011, he joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and worked at the Dungeness Nuclear Power station in Kent. (this is where he had firearms training.)
  • In September 2018, he transferred to the Metropolitan Police Service and was initially based in the Bromley area.
  • In February 2020 he moved to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command. His primary role was uniformed patrols at a range of embassies in the capital.

Yes. You are correct. Biggin Hill is close to the Croydon/Bromley border and is almost definitely in the jurisdiction of the Bromley police that WC worked under.

That reminds me. I wondered if one of the reasons of taking someone from London was some kind of grievance against the Met on the accused’s behalf.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned but I’m sure EC has changed her username on YouTube but kept the videos up of her children which I find very bizarre.

Having said that, I’m seeing lots of people vilify her on Twitter but she could very well be completely innocent in all this.
There are many cases I’m of men committing heinous crimes and their loved ones having no idea. At the worst they may have thought their partner was having affairs.

it is not my understanding that if you are on legal aid on a charge of murder you are "appointed " one, they still get to choose a lawyer from those who undertake legal aid work it is not like in the US where they are allocated a public defender,

We don't really have lawyers - we use the term lawyer but it is a cover all term for anyone who provides legal advice. It's not a role as such. Solicitors provide specialist legal advice, barristers represent in court.

You are offered a duty solicitor and you don't need to take them, and you can source your own legal aid solicitor, within the remits of all of that.

But that is different to what is being discussed which is your Barrister. You would still get an appointed QC. This would usually be someone requested by your Solicitor, and there's all sorts of wrangling there at times that isnt really relevant here but is very interesting if you're into that sort of stuff. Lots of places you can read about court bureaucrat gossip online if you're that way inclined.

Your QC would come with a junior in a case like this, and a wider team. If you were a millionaire (and even then, I think you might need to be a cashflow millionaire not just have a big house but definitely JMO there I haven't looked at the finer side of that in my role) you might choose to instruct your own QC but we're really talking the ability to access choice not so much the choice of more quality at this level of a charge. JMO/work in this area.
