Brianne Altice, 35, faces 14 felony charges and could face life in prison if convicted.

Wednesday, a second district judge had to decide whether or not to separate the teacher's three alleged victims of sexual abuse, which seem to have a lot in common: All were juniors at Davis High School, all were exposed of having had sexual relations with their English teacher, and all are Altice's alleged victims of sexual abuse.

In September 2014 testimony, a different victim called Altice a "teacher with benefits."

Out on bail, she has sex with one of the victims. She is put back in jail and denied bond.

Prosecutors had asked for the no-bail hold because most of the crimes testified about Thursday happened when Altice was out on bail in connection with the charges related to the first two alleged victims.

One of her victims is one of her defenders. He is now 18 years old.

On the stand, the teen stole glances at Altice, and said "she didn't deserve" to be on trial. He said he felt bad when he found out she was arrested.

Prosecutors wanted to bundle the cases into one trial, but the defense successfully argued that trying the cases together would be prejudicial to Altice, according to Fox 13 Salt Lake City. The judge sided with the defense on Monday, saying that there was enough evidence in the case to warrant splitting the trials.

A Utah judge has ordered a teacher accused of sex with students to stand separate trials for each case.

Brianne Altice, 35, is charged with sexually abusing three male students at Davis High School in Kaysville. She was first arrested in October 2013, after authorities learned she allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old student.

Many people in Utah feel that she should just get a slap on the wrist, lose her job as a teacher, and move on with her life. There are so many people who are saying that these boys are willing participants and it is not rape. I whole-heartedly disagree! If this was a man teacher and a female student, everyone would be up in arms. What say you fellow WS members?

She plead guilty! I am very, very shocked; although she did get quite a good plea deal! I still think there is a double standard at play here.

The Standard-Examiner reports that 35-year-old Brianne Altice entered guilty pleas Wednesday in a court in Bountiful to three counts of forcible sexual abuse.

The former Davis High School English teacher is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28. Each count carries a possible sentence of 1 to 15 years in prison.

A second former student from Davis High School has sued the Davis County School District and former English teacher Brianne Altice, who is accused of having sex with three of her students.

The lawsuit also claims that the district knew of "inappropriate behavior" by Altice; a lawsuit filed last month by another former student says the district once reprimanded Altice after seeing photographs of her having "inappropriate contact with students," but did not terminate her or sufficiently supervise her.

I have a lot of trouble wrapping my mind around being sexually attracted to someone so unequal to yourself. I guess some people only feel ok being intimate with someone they see themselves as being in control of. If that even makes any sense. What happened to going after somebody doing as well or better than yourself in the same stage of life? Is that just too boring these days? Risking your best way of earning a living? I just don't get it, I guess.

I did not know a unionized public school teacher could be fired. Honestly. The criminals in our district have to be made so miserable they quit, then take their mental illness and/or criminal behaviour on to their next job.

In Utah, you can legally consent to sexual intercourse when you become 18 years old.

To answer your question I think she took full advantage of these kids to satisfy her own lusts. She deserves to be punished as she was a teacher entrusted by parents to teach and protect their children. I'd feel the same with a man.

I will add having been a 17 year old (ahem, kind of a long time ago) I admit I don't think the boys are necessarily traumatized by her actions but that doesn't make it acceptable. I have an unhealthy disdain for any adult that sexually molests a child. The devastating impact it has on the victim is immeasurable. 17 though, I'm not sure I consider it a sex offense as much as I consider it a matter of broken trust. Does that make any sense?

That is really unfortunate and I had no idea any of the boys were targeted for bullying and needed counseling. Perhaps I need to not generalize and assume so much. I hope your acquaintance heals from this and may this "teacher" receive plenty of time to sit and mull her actions .

Brianne Altice wants to see good come out of her bad situation.

The former Davis High School English teacher pleaded guilty last month to having sexual contact with three male students. With her sentencing date approaching — July 9 — Altice made her case in a letter to 2nd District Judge Thomas Kay.

Altice faces a possible one- to 15-year prison term for each of her three second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse charges. Deputy Davis County Attorney Susan Hunt told the judge that prosecutors will likely ask for a prison sentence.
