A quick search shows that all the restaurants around Hatch park are mostly Mexican, with a couple burger and pizza places. I don't see a Waffle House or IHOP, which could have been open that early in the morning.

Also, with all this talk of the phone, do we know if it was ever recovered? Was it part of the charred items in the backyard? We think he may have logged into her Insta account to follow a couple of pages, but that could have been done from another device, such as an iPad or laptop?

What happens if an iPhone is submerged in water, ie. thrown in a lake or body of water? I assume it dies and location services no longer work? Is there any water at Hatch park? I didn't see any on a google map....

The Denny’s are down near the airport, too. (By the way, if I disappear any time soon, and LE checks out my phone, I hope they won’t, based on my phone searches, look for me in North Salt Lake.)

As far as I know, we haven’t heard any mention of what might have happened to her physical phone. LE said they found some evidence of her possessions in the charred items, but we don’t know what.

Even if Hatch Park had some sort of ornamental pond that’s too small to show in the map, I think the time frame—just a minute after the Lyft ride ended—indicates that either ML or AA turned off her phone.

MOO

We don’t know what became of the phone. Once it was powered down, it was no longer behaving as a tracking device.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he burned it.

I still think the Instagram activity was unrelated, and highly doubt her phone was used for that purpose if it was related.

Everyone has passwords on their devices, and Kenzie would have certainly been dead at the point that the activity supposedly occurred.

If her phone had been used, it would have needed to be turned on, and he’d need that password.

At which point, law enforcement would probably be able to track the location of that phone.

AA's roommate told reporters that he was successful with women, and had a constant stream of women coming in and out of his room. Roommate said it was peculiar that the women sometimes stayed in his room, sometimes not coming out for 2-3 days, and apparently, no sign that they were eating during that time (which seems far-fetched, although I suppose there could have been food in the room and there must have been an ensuite). But it was a constantly changing set of women. Not "dating" in the usual sense.

One of AA's online profiles describes him as being into BDSM, as well as a series of other sex practices (some of them obscure, I sure don't know what he means by some of it). I think he was filming these sessions (moo obviously).

breakfast at 3am? I must admit that is a new one on me.

let's say she wanted a nice big pancake breakfast at 3am, why not a girlfriend? Or why not instruct the lyft driver to drop off at the restaurant?

After a long exhausting flight especially one that arrives in the
middle of the night, the very first thing I want to do is get home.
LAX to SLC is not a "long and exhausting flight." It's about 90 minutes.

True, but she still had to be up late to get to the airport, wait around to board, etc and that can be pretty tiring.

So I think what the OP was suggesting is that after a long night, most people just want to get back home rather than going out to eat breakfast.
I wouldn't think she would have wanted to do that either.

The only time I have known people to go to breakfast at that hour is after hanging out drinking at a bar until closing time. Sometimes friends aren't ready to end the evening and all go to a diner together for coffee and food.

I don't know how he got her to meet him there, but I bet the answer is somewhere in those text messages.

I'm wondering if he promised her or owed her something and he told her he would meet her to give it to her and then just drive her home. Imo

I understand the desire to create a certain picture about what actually transpired here. And I understand the contortions the mind can go through to create that picture. someone can believe she went out for breakfast at 3am. I am not one of them.

There is more to flying than the 90 minutes you are in the air. A 90 minute flight can take half a day depending on delays, and transport options to and from the airport, and waiting for checked luggage. Not to mention passing through security and getting to airport 1 hour early. I know this because I just took a 90 minute flight that exhausted me.

the first thing I want to do is GO HOME after a flight that arrives in the middle of the night. but I understand a certain segment of the population might rather go straight to Denny's for a grand slam breakfast.

there is no indication their relationship was sd/sb
there is no evidence that aa "failed many times" with girls.
evidence suggests he had no shortage of female visitors.

The problem and the mystery are that, for whatever reason, ML did not want to be with a girlfriend. (Maybe she knew they’d be asleep. Maybe she knew they couldn’t provide what she was looking for?) She wanted to be with AA.

I think she didn’t realize what AA was, of course. We don’t know yet what she thought the relationship was. I think the texts/chats will tell the story.

i agree with much of this.

4. Initial Appearance. (Class A Misdemeanors & Felonies Only) The Court officially notifies a person of the charges against him or her. The Court may also decide if a bail should be set and if any no contact orders for witnesses should be issued. The Court then sets a date for a scheduling conference or waiver hearing.

5. Scheduling Conference / Waiver Hearing. (Class A Misdemeanors & Felonies Only) After both sides have an opportunity to review the evidence, the Prosecutor and Defense Attorney attempt to negotiate a case settlement. A judge may refuse to accept the settlement but usually will accept any agreement reached by the two sides. If the case is not settled, the case will be set for a Preliminary Hearing or for Arraignment.

6. Preliminary Hearing. (Class A Misdemeanors & Felonies Only) The Prosecutor presents evidence to show that there is enough evidence to “bind over” the case for trial. If the judge believes that there is enough evidence to go to trial for each of the charges, the Court will set the case for a Pretrial Conference or a Trial. If the judge believes that there is not enough evidence, the Court will dismiss the case.

7. Arraignment. The judge reads the charges. The Defendant must then enter a plea. A judge may also decide if any no contact orders for witnesses should be issued. If the Defendant pleads guilty or no contest, the case is set for Sentencing. If the plea is not guilty, the case is set for a Pretrial Conference.

I believe they were granted an extension to tomorrow - Wednesday? I'm sure the link is in the media thread.

ETA
A suspect would typically only be allowed to be held in custody for 72 hours before charges are filed or they must be released. Because of the extension, Gill told CNN, his office has until Wednesday at 5 p.m. local time.

MOO a very dramatic extension. To recover the body.

Late-night breakfast is pretty common in some parts of the US, particularly among college students and travelers. Hence the not uncommon occurrence of 24 hour restaurants, both chain and local, which frequently serve breakfast all day. (Waffle House, Denny's, many diners, casinos etc. Not that they were going to a casino in SLC!)

Additionally Kenzie had been in California for a few days, an hour behind SLC time, and thus may not have physically felt it was that late. 2 am to college students often isn't considered late, especially in the summer.

Another poster already noted that the flight from LA is not a long one, so while she was undoubtedly emotionally tired from grieving, I doubt she felt much fatigue simply from being on a plane for two hours or so. For all we know she napped on the flight or had refreshments on board, and wanted to wind down a little before going home to sleeping roommates. MOO

I'm not so sure she really knew he was this guy. I wonder if she thought she was meeting with someone else. Surprise surprise when she got in that car!

I’ve wondered the exact same thing. I go back and forth between a) them having some sort of relationship/friendship/etc. and him straight up catfishing her (“How about we get away when you land and take my plane to Park City/Jacksonhole/etc. and I’ll have you back in time for work and your tests”).

Yes. I think something was believed by her that was a ruse. Now, she got into a normal car, not exclusive, so again, I suspect she believed someone came to pick her up to deliver her.
