Ted Bundy did the same after his move to Utah from Washington. In his case, it seemed to give him access to new friends - some still recall that he was a well-liked guest and a great cook (!). I don’t know that he ever intended to prey on anyone he met via the church. I don’t think so. I think he was trying to be or seem normal. Maybe AA was, too. ??? Would love to hear more from anyone he knew via the church.
Yes, I would too. Interestingly, AA's roommate he knew from trying to get into the military, said that AA liked to cook as well. And was extremely particular and became angry if it wasn't just right.

Similar to what Diggndeeperstill posted...."In Yoruba culture, Dori Kodo means the head bent, ingrained and praying, figuratively, the attitude of the bat. The deeply meaning is reflected in the perception of an overturned world. The anxiety and the frustrations are amplified, the hope tends to be lost..." https://hilumity.wixsite.com/ish-365 About the third song down on the page

I think he tried anything he could do to get ahead or have an "American" life. College (couldn't complete it). Wife (in an arranged set up but couldn't build a relationship). Great jobs (resume was a lie). Own his home (probably couldn't make enough to live in it without supplemental income). Show talents (wrote a book that was filleted on Amazon, Goldman Sachs/Dell jobs that may not have existed). Stay relevant in a youth culture (model, date beautiful women, be desirable). Became a Mormon (prevalent religion, business connections, doesn't appear he could maintain). It must have made him furious that he was that close but couldn't close deals or belong.
He clearly was/is a scary man that gave off signals to many that he was disturbed if not a criminal. He also developed an important skill--pushing up to the line of where people will hold you accountable and walking away-- and moved on frequently while his fantasies of controlling someone or being desired by someone took over. Kenzie was probably not the first fall into his "I'm a good guy" trap. His ex describes him in the beginning as not so bad. But, the more people got to know him the more uncomfortable he made them, because you can't hide pathology for long as it interrupts/disrupts everything.
Very intuitive post. I think you nailed it.

Browsing through the Utah penal code and it's safe to say that unless some plea deal is done, this guy is pretty f'ed (as he should be). From the code (non-relevant parts are skipped for post length consideration):

Effective 7/1/2019
76-5-202. Aggravated murder.
(1) Criminal homicide constitutes aggravated murder if the actor intentionally or knowingly causes the death of another under any of the following circumstances:
(d) the homicide was committed incident to an act, scheme, course of conduct, or criminal episode during which the actor committed or attempted to commit aggravated robbery, robbery, rape, rape of a child, object rape, object rape of a child, forcible sodomy, sodomy upon a child, forcible sexual abuse, sexual abuse of a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, child abuse as defined in Subsection 76-5-109(2)(a), or aggravated sexual assault, aggravated arson, arson, aggravated burglary, burglary, aggravated kidnapping, or kidnapping, or child kidnapping;
(e) the homicide was committed incident to one act, scheme, course of conduct, or criminal episode during which the actor committed the crime of abuse or desecration of a dead human body as defined in Subsection 76-9-704(2)(e);

The following is from the penalty part of the code:

(3)
(a) If a notice of intent to seek the death penalty has been filed, aggravated murder is a capital felony.
(b) If a notice of intent to seek the death penalty has not been filed, aggravated murder is a non-capital first degree felony punishable as provided in Section 76-3-207.7.
(c)(i) Within 60 days after arraignment of the defendant, the prosecutor may file notice of intent to seek the death penalty. The notice shall be served on the defendant or defense counsel and filed with the court.

If the prosecution does not seek the DP, then the penalty is:

Effective 5/10/2016
76-3-207.7. First degree felony aggravated murder -- Noncapital felony -- Penalties -- Sentenced by court.
(a) The sentence under this section shall be:
(i) life in prison without parole; or
(ii) an indeterminate prison term of not less than 25 years and that may be for life.

The only thing that will save him from death row at this point is if the prosecution - assuming with agreement from KL's family - will agree to a plea of life without parole. I see no other option for this guy, thank God.

I hope this is because the feds are taking over and not because LE arrested AA too quickly before getting all their ducks in a row. Don't they have a limited number of days to either charge him or release him? How long can he be held without charges and without bond? I hope he doesn't get released. He's a flight risk IMHO.
One of the local reporters was on Fox News this morning and he said they have a mountain of evidence to go through. They have been working round the clock and are asking for an extension, perhaps until the end of the week.

They are also still not certain he acted alone and want to try to make that determination first.

Haven't commented in days so have gathered more than a few thoughts so apologize for length.

I hope the delay in charging is simply due to wanting to take the time available to do the best job and perhaps bringing in help from the state and more to work together on it.

It would not be due to waiting for additional charges or evidence imo because they can add new charges at any time, although perhaps that could be if there is some strategy they have for doing that.

They have the 72 hours so I guess there is no reason not to use them and hopefully there is no other reason.

I cannot quite track his life here and make any sense of it. So he comes to Utah first and joins LDS and attends college? At some point he is in Texas and marries someone from Texas and then comes back to Utah? At some point he is in SC?

It also sounds as if there were many things that could have resulted in him having to return to his home country. He did not complete military basic, he did not complete school nor obtain a degree, he had a rape charge which if followed through with may have seen him both doing time and deported or one or the other, possibly a fraudulent marriage (probably on his part at least), etc. I am in no way blaming anyone as the women in each case here is probably lucky just to be alive when he did attack them and if they had went up against him afterwards, who knows if they would be.

I am simply saying it is such a shame that he may not have been in this country without lucking out like that--were these things reported like the lack of full-time school attendance, no degree, failure to complete basic and/or followed up with, etc. or if he had not been sponsored to come here (if he was), Kenzie may be alive today. However, there are always what ifs and he would have at some point had another victim, whether prior or after, if there already have not been others.

Kenzie seems to have had good friends and I give them credit for standing up for her and any victim bashing and against the accusations regarding race. Sadly, we all know it will do nothing to stop such FB comments, etc. and it has likely only just begun.

I am still a little flabbergasted the perp is Mormon, I did not see that one coming.

As to burning right in town with close neighbors, I still just kind of shake my head at this. I know burning has not been unusual in cases, even in town at times, but everything about this one--it appears it was right next to a building, was it his shed? How close to a neighbor's, etc.? We have a rural property with acreage and can burn just about anything and do and no one bothers, the neighbors do the same but we have a bit of distance and it is just the way of most. We use garbage/recycling service for little except plastics. An old mattress? It goes on the bonfire. Junk mail? In the smaller fire pit. An old rotten piece of furniture? Bonfire if big, fire pit if small. It is just very common and not anything anyone complains about.

We also have a place in a city, with close neighbors such as this perp has. There are different ordinances everywhere but one can have a small fire pit but there are stricter rules and they are far more often enforced as to how close it can be to a building (anyone smart would not burn too near a building anyhow), how close to your neighbor's or the fence dividing your properties, and what types of materials can be burned. It is also more strictly enforced and of course there are far more neighbor complaints if you are not careful and small with it or if there was a stench such as described here and local officers will definitely respond.

It boggles my mind he had a hot burn right in a city with a quite small yard, likely fueled by gasoline, next to a building, feet from his neighbors, was burning for at least two different times on two days what we believe he was burning and (1) that he did this or chose to do this here; and (2) that no one came out to check on it and ask what was being burned, etc. If such things smell as described, I doubt it was only the close neighbors that were smelling this at times... I wonder if there was any fear of him in his own neighborhood... If he snaps as often as we have heard then possibly neighbors have seen that violent, temperamental streak...

All jmo and speculation, again apologies for length, I have not posted in days and had thoughts I needed to clear...

Most likely! I'm familiar with the Yoruba religion... and it just popped my mind if this was some kind of ritual? Maybe deep in his heart he never converted to LDS.

Sorry I left out my quote earlier.
What are you referring to a “this”? The killing? What type of rituals are common in that religion?

It was identified as a VA flag but I'm not sure we know that it was in his house. ?
Couldn’t remember why it was being discussed.? Was it in the Airbnb listing or the movoto?

As far as I know he was a legal resident with a green card.

This is so helpful! Sorting out all the timelines and locations / who what when where is making my head spin. I have also been following the recent story on investigations into marriage / tax / immigration history of a nationally known figure and there are coincidences in dates between the two situations to the point I have now printed out the timelines of each so I can know what the heck I am thinking about in following different stories!

Is there any special attractiveness in coming to Utah State? Are they well known for International students? When I looked at how many from Nigeria were there it was small, like 3 total in 2017 and what appears to be about 3 in 2010 as well. I wonder why he chose Utah anyway.

Utah State University International

IMO, most likely because of the LDS church. They are very involved with bringing immigrants to the US. They most likely supported him for a time through church welfare. All of this is most likely why he became a member.

Let's try to piece together AA's major movements since he arrived in the US. I just threw this together so it's likely missing a lot. What can you add?

This is terrific! Als0 - in what year did he purchase the property on 1000 Street, SLC? Was it 2017 or 2016?

At some point he may have lived in South Carolina but the dates are unclear:

“He's definitely a guy that likes to maintain an appearance,” said Sakari Moore, who said he first met Ajayi when they were in basic training together with the U.S. Army in Fort Jackson, S.C.

Police arrest Ayoola Ajayi and seek aggravated murder charges in the death of MacKenzie Lueck

That article goes on to say his "Army friend" SM moved to Utah in Jan 2018 and lived in AA's downstairs room/AirBnb room.

I would bet my lunch that joining the lds church was all about getting into and staying in the US.

And I will bet my dinner his marriage was an immigration scam.
