Hunters found remains and foul play expected. Have NOT been identified yet. I strongly believe they may be Emma's.

Only about 4 miles from the Cody Store: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/400...d80ba0678a!2m2!1d-79.0972379!2d36.9781312!3e0

Here's another article:
The remains were located in a heavily wooded area approximately 700 yards off Sandy Ridge Road in Nathalie, and foul play is suspected, he added.
Deputies and investigators from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigator and confirmed the find, Clark said on Thanksgiving Day.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations with the Third Division in Appomattox also was notified, and they sent agents to assist in the investigation and recovery of the remains.

The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Richmond to help with the identification, the sheriff added.

The sheriff’s office is continuing an investigation.

Clark declined to say whether the remains are those of 52-year-old Emma Compton Layne, who has been missing from her home in Cody since the middle of June.

From the store to the location that this body was found is 7 minutes away, 4 miles.

Anyone looked up property owner? Any idea if her or/and her husband owned that property she was found on? Family property of either? I haven't felt Emma was alive in a long time, and believe someone close to her harmed her. "IF" that is true, I hope this is Emma, and whoever is responsible left enough evidence for prosecution!

Based on the article recently attached, they own property about a mile from where the body was found.

Halifax County land records show Emma Layne, a woman who went missing in June, owns property with her husband within a mile of where the remains were found.

Major Tommy Spencer says he cannot say whether the remains belong to a male or female, but investigators do believe the remains have been there for a year or less.

As of now we do expect foul play," he says.

BBM. Is it just me or is that a very odd way to phrase it? Usually they say they "suspect foul play" not "expect foul play". Could be a misquote/typo since the two words rhyme but those words have different connotations, IMO.

I missed that and with all the mistakes I have read in msm articles lately it is very possible an error.

Last night's WDBJ update--investigators have the DNA and dental records to proceed, basically.

From the article:
Since the remains were found less than a mile from property Layne owns, they believe the body found last week is hers.

"Do you think that it's Emma?" asked WDBJ7's Hannah Story. "I do. Yes," responded Emma Layne's sister, Wynona Childress.

Emma Layne's sister, Wynona Childress, says all signs point to the remains found 700 yards off Sandy Ridge Road last Wednesday being her sister.

Investigators called Childress last week.

"Because of the proximity to their property, even though it was on someone else's property they felt that they should notify us because they thought it was Emma," she says.

Just looked for an update, no results from ME yet.

Waiting waiting waiting for them to identify the remains...
surely they know...
no arrest(s) yet?
why aren't they releasing any info?
I hope it's because they are building a solid case to ensure justice for Emma, rather than b/c they have nothing new. :(
:praying:

Vigil held: https://www.wsls.com/news/virginia/southside/vigil-held-for-halifax-county-woman-missing-since-june

In November, hunters found human remains in a wooded area less than a mile from Emma's house.

According to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, the remains were found in what appeared to be a shallow grave.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner's office in Richmond for identification.

As of Friday, they had not been identified. Family members, though, believe the remains are Emma's.

As the friends and family of Emma Compton Layne head into the new year, they’re entering it with a shift in focus now centered on forgiveness and seeking justice.

This was evident at a dinner and vigil held for Layne in the northern end of the county Friday evening at Republican Grove United Methodist Church as Pastor Kyle Uselton spoke of a new season and reminded those attending to hold on to joy, hope and love as they seek justice.

They’re currently still waiting for identification of the body to come from the medical examiner’s office, and that could take up to 90 days.

“All we can live on is facts, and the fact is we still don’t know the truth, but the truths are coming,” said Uselton who urged the congregation to prepare for the truth.

“It’s not going to be pretty. It’s not going to be fun. There’s going to be a lot of hurt, and it’s going to be ugly before we can get to the good.”

“We are still awaiting additional information from the medical examiner’s office concerning the circumstances and cause of death,” said Sheriff Clark. “But, we are treating this as a homicide investigation and are continuing to pursue all possible leads related to Mrs. Layne’s death. This investigation is top priority. “
