This is a question for Carl, Bessie and probably Tricia. If Grateful Doe's family needs financial help to get him home, would it be possible for WS to set up some sort of account that we could contribute to?
Trying to wrap my head around someone waiting twenty years to report someone missing. I am sure there are plenty of reasons.
<modsnip>
When my cousin disappeared in the 80s, the police refused to file a report because he was over 18 and a drug addict... despite the fact that another one of my cousins, the first one's half-brother in fact, was on the police force. Fortunately he finally came home and cleaned up. A while after getting sober he was out skateboarding when he took a fall the wrong way and crushed the base of his skull against a curb. My buddy was definitely being honest about being sober; all of his organs were donated. I like knowing that his heart is still out there beating.
Have to say that my heart really sunk when I saw the 2 articles that came out; one in Myrtle Beach another in Champaign IL. Many people here have worked this case for many years with no luck; greymetal told me she's followed it for 5 years. There have been many articles written about GDF; there is also the FB page as well as the event. SSA & myself have an album for him on our page Never Forget Me; yet the right person was not hit with any of them. It is possible they saw one; but did not connect it due to the newer recon. It's hard to say.
All good points!also, seems she may have nit a rough patch (divorced, not sure how/why her daughter died young) but it's also SC and she married a black man - I't possible that local authorities never respected her or where she was at that point in life. And seeing he was over 16 and following a band, it would be almost impossible for them to even know where to start. Least we forget cell phones/texting, etc wasn't common/given. In college and right after, I would go months without calling home to talk to my parents, usually right before break. This woman had started a new family and probably prayed one day Jason would come back grown-up. It's sad all the way around.
I also learned recently that the language you use with the police when you go to file a report probably matters. (No, I am not saying that you should not curse at the police, although that probably would not help!). Do not ask, "Would you please look for my daughter?" They probably would not care if you went to your knees and begged. Instead, say firmly, "I wish to file a report." Sometimes the state law says that the police must take the report, but then, in a contradictory fashion, leaves the discretion on reports up to the local authorities.
Completely agree! I'm very disappointed. Numerous interviews and articles have been given over the last few days all have been "I I I" "Me Me Me" I personally haven't seen any of the news articles state the actual lead came from Greymetal's post on Reddit! All said and done, it is about Greatful Doe, but it also comes down to what this website is all about ... TRUE FACTS.
We talked with Callahan's mother, who did not want to go on camera, but told us, "I am just waiting for everything to be put together to see if it is my son, to see if it is a positive match."
Callahan's mother also confirmed that the photos of the man named Jason posted to the Grateful Doe Facebook page are those of her son, Jason Callahan.
