I know what WS thinks but I do recall this case too:

I know in the current case, the baby is still at home, but every now and then there is a surprise in the missing moms cases.

It is an interesting thought, given the glaring differences between how Bhatt is treating the wife and the child. It is as if all he needed was a child.

JMO. I am thinking of a totally opposite situation. A young man, an immigrant to a new country, who may have lived alone for quite a while. Practically, how does he resolve the biological need, to meet women? Your guess is as good as mine, but I think, “the usual”, a computer. So his expectations of intimacy is formed by the media. And then he marries a woman 9 years younger, through an arranged marriage. She is likely way less worldly. She had no mother nor female relatives around to ask, and I suspect that their views of “that part” of marriage are very different. As time goes by and the baby appears, this schism widens. I think this very fact may be the reason of her escaping to her friends, and he, not even quite understanding how she feels, gets jealous (“doesn’t want to be at home with me? Maybe there is someone else?”). This incredible control, not letting her out anywhere, that her friends have described, might reflect the situation I am thinking of - that there are strikingly different expectations from private life and that he is clueless. It happens in this country, too, right and left, but the difference is, the Bhatts are not from the culture where such issues are sorted out in therapy. Likely Mamta tends to over report positive aspects of her life during phone calls with her family, and she may feel awkward to open up to her friends.

So, JMO, I think that Bhatt is the poi for a very good reason, but perhaps it was not planned. He actually has a very poor explanation for her absence.

However: the fact that Mamta was unafraid to leave the child with him might indicate what I think you might be hinting at - that the child is valuable to him, but this is the only thing he wanted from that marriage, and Mamta had no value in his eyes.

Like, Kelsey Berreth and Partick Frazee?

God I hope that poor, sweet baby somehow makes her way safely to Mamta's family in Nepal.
I've been thinking of the little one. She is an American citizen and I don't think it will be easy for family in another country to gain custody, but that is my guess, not based on experience or knowledge.

Police chief:

Although answers are limited by the ongoing investigation, it remains a top priority. Will provide details as able.

10 search warrants/hundreds of interviews. To include tonight’s search warrant at the house.

Could have simply made a press release…

For those of you not part of the Manassas/Manassas Park/Prince William County area, the reason for some of what's happening is because the mayor of Manassas Park City is up for re-election (as is the mayor of Manassas City, who really has nothing to do with this but because the cities border each other and are tiny, it's all one community in a way), so this high profile case both locally and now nationally, is not a good look for the mayor's campaign. So I think there is pressure on the police department from the political side to be more public about what's going on and be in front of the cameras more than just issuing press releases.

Also, because both cities are tiny, they often leverage Prince William County services like their forensics and Fairfax County services like their helicopters and sometimes Federal services as well since we are so close to DC. So you may see other police departments in the area helping out, providing support and manpower.

I'm still shocked they let the baby be alone with him this long. I mean, I guess they had to have legal reason to remove her, but wow. Thank God she's ok.

IMO MOO
I would be too, but it makes sense to me here.

Last night I said the baby better have been removed if they were going to turn up the heat like they did (uncooperative, POI). But law enforcement has been there all night, so if they knew they were going to be pulling the trigger soon, there wouldn’t be much of a risk.

I don’t think he was ever alone with the baby after that.

Oh ok. I was envisioning them leaving him inside the house alone with the baby all night, but you make much more sense! :)
