If parents are looking for ways to bond to become closer to their children, what about just sharing a beer or going on a shopping spree? WTH is it with firearms? Just because the youth is good at killing spacemen or aliens on a computer game shouldn't automatically mean, "take 'em out to a shooting range." Grrrrr.

Not sure that the beer is any better than the gun in this situation. Both have killed way too many people.

It's probably not best to share a beer until over 21...j.s. Especially if they'er a troubled teen. It's hard to find a way to bond with the typical teen, in an effort to get them to "talk" to you about what's going on in their lives or in their heads. Multiply that by about infinity w/ a kid who has some of these more difficult diags, that get them into "private" schools. Is it a wise choice when your troubled youth says, "Hey Parent, could I come target shooting with you?" NO. They're still not going to tell you what's going on. They'll talk to you til they get what they want but you still won't find out what's going on with them. I found that trying to get everyone to sit down for dinner together at least 3-5 nights a week kept some communication open. Also, purchasing a very strong piece of nanny software, for phones, laptops, etc... with internet access, put it in surveillance mode, and check the logs for keywords every few days (You don't have to read your kid's every thought.), keeps you updated. Do a surprise favor for your kid, troubled or not, and put their clothing away for them every now and then so you can "accidentally" run across things that you'd not have known were there, otherwise. Changing the sheets for them allows you to "accidentally" find stuff too. Mine got their privacy, unless I felt something was "off". Our home was not run as a democracy. Now, when they leave your four walls, there's pretty much nothing you can do, except hope (I also pray) that some stuff stuck, and it will work out in the end.

IMO, he was in a medically induced coma, so may not be in as bad a condition as once thought.

Paralyzed and sedated on a vent - we don't call it a coma, that's the family's verbage. This could mean a few things - they've taken off the sedation and he's still not waking up (not good), could mean he's somewhat alert but still on a vent , or awake off vent but lost speech capability. most of the time if the patient is awake and alert without paralytics and sedation they want off that vent natural reflex is to gag and want that tube out. Who knows what his true condition is.

Indeed. Who knows what his condition is? I kind of think that he did not do a good job of it.

Here's a quote from an earlier article, followed by links to the scanner recordings

This from Buckley Fricker's mother:

LISTEN: Dispatch audio from Va. shooting where teen allegedly killed girlfriend's parents

http://wjla.com/news/local/police-r...shooting-were-teen-killed-girlfriends-parents

"My daughter and her husband found out about a lot of the Nazi stuff just this past week, and they forbid their daughter to see him again," Janet Kuhn told NBC Washington.

Weird that she doesn't refer to AF as her granddaughter.

Why do you think that?

Because I copied and pasted all of his tweets into a document and, after reviewing them, I found the timeline of the changes in his tweets very interesting

Who said he was paralyzed? Where did you hear or read this?

I had a friend in the late 90’s who was shot in the head by her boyfriend when he “thought it wasn’t loaded” and was screwing around. He pointed it at her dead on and pulled the trigger at the same time she turned her head. It entered her eye socket and exited the side of her head. She really didn’t seem to lose any brain functionality but did end up with a glass eye.

True about not introducing alcohol to a troubled teen, but it’s actually legal in Virginia.

The poster is referring to the fact that if he was placed in a "medically induced coma", he is on (potentially) paralytics and sedatives to keep him immobile and calm. They "paralyze" you with drugs intentionally. They do it in the case of increased intracranial pressure, for example.

Here's an excerpt from a good article re induced comas:

What are you protecting the brain from?
If you've had a brain injury, what happens is the metabolism of the brain has been significantly altered. You may have areas without adequate blood flow. The idea is: "Let me reduce the amount of energy those different brain areas need." If I can do that then, as the brain heals and the swelling goes down, maybe those areas that were at risk can be protected.

But the main thing about a drug-induced coma, as opposed to a coma, is that it's reversible. If you do this to someone with a normal brain, they would come right out of it once you removed the drugs.

When we use the term " paralyzed" for someone on a ventilator we are talking about chemical paralytics. Medically induced coma is not a medical term - we say " paralyzed and sedated".

We paralyze chemically to keep a patient from fighting the vent. A ventric is a drain used to drain fluid from the ventricles of the brain and used to gauge intracranial pressure. Very possible he has all of these going . Would be very ok interested to know exactly what is going on with him.

OMGosh! What moron, or rather, idiot, points a gun at someone and pulls the trigger?! He should have been blacklisted from owning as much as a pointy stick, not to mention firearms. That poor girl. Imagine the trauma. The only folks I know of who took their lives, by firearm, (or any other means), did not survive. Most used shotguns.

Exactly. And the longer he's on the paralytics (assuming he's on them) the longer it may take for him to regain functional mobility/muscle function (if ever), especially if he's on glucocorticoids, which I'm assuming he is. I'd love to know too. There was a long period where the impression was given with Austin Harrouff that he was on death's door on a vent for a very long time and in the end I think he was extubated and on the road to recovery long before anyone ever knew. Kind of doubt that's what's going on here with a head shot, though.

Newsweek mentioned the name of the right wing killer in this article yesterday:

'Not Today Antifa': Gun Company Ad Threatens Leftists with Assault Rifles

http://www.newsweek.com/not-today-antifa-gun-company-ad-threatens-leftists-assault-rifles-774941

What's more, Scott Fricker and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker were allegedly killed by Nicholas Giampa, a 17-year-old neo-Nazi from Virginia who was dating their daughter. The man who killed a Douglas County, Colorado, deputy and wounded other law enforcement figures on December 31 was attracted to an “alt-right” ideology, a local news reporter suggested. According to the FBI, a 26-year-old white man who attempted an attack on an Amtrak train in rural Nebraska in October 2017 also attended the "Unite the Right" rally last August in Charlottesville, Virginia, Newsweek reported last week.

Still no news on whether LE has arrested the killer. No word on whether he's even still in the hospital. I hope someone besides local LE is following this case. I would hate to see something happen that ends up letting this kid off the hook and the investigation be buried in a file somewhere, hidden from the public.

Did anybody find out about the surviving children ? I know the uncle is taking the nephew to his home but what about the girl ? Where is she going ?
