In my view, MBBs disappearance gives us the best opportunity (out of the 4 GB4 cases) of narrowing down the killer’s residential location - based on the facts of the situation. It’s very late on a Sunday, she has an important court thing in CT on Monday, she’s been robbed, seems desperate and is making lots of calls. She says she needs to be picked up, then all of a sudden she has enough money to catch the Amtrak to New London. Wouldn’t she call again if those plans changed - if a John called and she had changed her mind and decided to stay to earn the money to escape eviction? (MBBs sister saw the call records and said this didn’t happen by the way). But of course she doesn’t, she just goes dark, like all of a sudden dark. So whatever happened likely happened fast without much preparation or planning on the part of MBB. Like someone offering her help or maybe asking her to turn a quick trick. What else makes sense in this scenario?? In any event, I would think this puts the killer in or quite close to the city. It just doesn’t seem likely that a Nasau or Suffolk County resident would be out trolling midtown Manhattan near midnight on a Sunday. I could always be wrong. Just putting it out there.
My hunch on this (as always speculation) is this. We know from the calls to Melissa’s sister that LISK, pings and links to victims that is often in Manhattan. Maybe he works there or goes there for socialising or to pick up hookers.
I see no reason why it would be unusual for a predatory prostitute killer to be hanging around in Manhattan late.
We also know that he knows Long Island very well, had related many, many pings there off burners & victims phones. It seems likely he lived in LI & commuted to Manthattan. He murdered them some place of his own then dumped them on LI. It seems unlikely he’d take the risk of transporting them there from Manhattan, too long a journey, too many people about. She must have died on LI.
Coincidences do happen. I suspect a previous John (LISK) spotted her in distress, listened to her situation and offered to help. As we know there was no call likely she met LISK face to face running into him by coincidence or seeking a John.
I think with the situation he said, ‘Look, it’s late. I’ll buy you a ticket, you travel to my house. You spend all night turning a trick for me all night, I pay you and then you can travel the rest of the way home and take the money to court. Problem solved!’
She’d have said yes, wouldn’t she? She had to. But she never made it out of his home.
So a John she’d seen before & trusted.
It’s also crossed my mind that LISK may have staged the robbery, paid someone else to do it or covered his face. If he was stalking his victims and finding out bits about their lives, relationships and problems, he could well have known MBB was in court the next day and in financial trouble. We know MBB was a stickler for rules and looking after her safety. If she was his mark and he really wanted to kill her. Well she’s desperate for cash, he makes sure she loses it and then he emerges as the white knight to solve her problems, of course she broke her rules.
It’s all speculation though.
