Circumstances of Disappearance:
Christopher was last known to be in the company of sixteen year old Eugene “Gene” Quillin and twenty year old James “Jim” Allan Dunlap, both of Tacoma. He picked them up in his car and drove with them to the banks of the Nisqually River. While at the river, an altercation broke out between Duffy and the two other men. He was thrown to the ground by Eugene before his throat was slashed eight times by Quillin, killing him. Afterwards, both Quillin and Dunlap threw Christopher’s body into the river from a bridge before driving off in his family’s car. Quillin admitted to the murder when he was interrogated but instead claimed that Dunlap had stabbed the teenager to death and that he only helped dispose of his body. However, Quillin was seen driving Christopher’s car in the days following his disappearance. Prosecutors alleged that Quillin murdered the youth because he wanted the car. Christopher’s body has never been recovered.

Additional Details:
Eugene Quillin was originally charged as a juvenile in the crime. Once it was discovered he instigated the crime, he was charged as an adult and tried as such. Quillin was convicted of first degree murder, possession of stolen property, and malicious mischief in connection with Christopher’s murder. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. James Dunlap pled guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder in connection with Duffy’s presumed death in late July 1985. The prosecution felt this was appropriate since Dunlap was only an accomplice to the crime. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in Christopher’s death.
