NAMUS: Missing Person Case

Original

Possible match?

Unidentified Person Case

Same height, weight, and age range. Found about an hour and a half from where Frye went missing.

Frye went missing two months before the UP was found.

If the remains were left in a wooded area in Washington in the summer, it isn’t very hard to believe that decomposition/animals would get to them quickly.

Welcome to Websleuths Liv27. Looks like a good possibility to me. I see you already found the UID's thread but linking it here for future reference:
WA - WA - Arlington, Wht/HispMale UP2138, 18-50, GSW, in Pilchuck Creek, Aug'80

Yeah, he’s actually in DNA testing right now to be the Snohomish County Doe from 1980. They took some DNA from the family and it’s going through right now. It’ll take a few months.

Thank you for the update!

Yeah, I completely forgot Daryl had a thread here! Here’s the full update:

I submitted Daryl as a possible John Doe from Snohomish County, Washington. I talked to them for a bit before and then asked for an update.

Jane, who’s in charge of this case, said that they took DNA from the Frye family and it is currently going through testing. If he isn’t the John Doe, it could be matched to someone else.

She said she’s feeling 50/50 about it being him since some physical characteristics are iff-y but she is feeling optimistic about it. The timeline is perfect though.

I can't think of anywhere else to post these, so here are all the missing persons records I could copy from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer regarding cases prior to 2002. I can't post a link here, because the site is defunct and I had to do some very complicated back-searching to get these.

It was this case that reminded me about them, because many of these cases existing prior to 2002 in Washington records are only just being entered into NamUs now, and if you look on the third file you'll find Darrel Frye's entry.

Also, back to Darrel Frye, the fact that he was out on probation and left home without any form of identification is conducive with foul play.

Tuck, this is awesome work!
I wonder if we will start seeing lots of these cases entered into Namus now? Some are certainly entered- like Deborah Wims. For some of these there is no info on the net at all. I wonder if that means they were located, or just never entered anywhere? It would sure be nice to know if we should be looking at some of these for UID's we've been looking in to....

Thank you! I just wish we were able to get ahold of the rest of the Washington records, as the others have not been archived and therefore can’t be accessed.

A little bit of an update regarding Darrel..... I contacted the ME again because I saw that his NamUs had been updated. Darrel's sister's DNA is successfully in the CODIS system and will be checked against Snohomish County Doe August 1980. They will run it at the end of the month. If Darrel is not this Doe, there is a chance that he will be matched with a different Doe. I will continue to update with what information I can have.

Apparently, there was some miscommunication from the beginning of me talking to the medical examiner. She thought I meant I believed Daryl was Snohomish Jetty Doe (UP14843) when I was contacting them for Arlington John Doe. She does not think he is the Doe that I contacted about, but the testing is still going through for Jetty Doe.

Hey-- I feel like this is still a win. Even though I didn't match Daryl with this particular Doe, I did get him being talked about and then his DNA was put into CODIS. I'll update with a link for Jetty Doe.
