Family of missing Thurston County man asking for the public's help

[...]

Stephen Barton, 54, who also goes by Shane, was last seen at his rural Thurston County home on Wednesday night. The next morning, Barton's cell phone and vehicles were left at his home, but his wife and son say he was nowhere to be found.

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office called Barton's disappearance "suspicious."

Barton's son, DB, said there have been multiple searches by law enforcement, family and friends since the day his dad went missing.

Thurston County investigators searched the family's 11-acre property from the ground and a state patrol airplane with infrared technology looked for hotspots from above. Detectives were on the property continuing to investigate on Tuesday.

[...]

DB said as soon as his mother noticed Stephen Barton hadn't taken his wallet, phone or keys with him, she believed his disappearance was suspicious.

[...]

The family of Stephen Barton reported the 54-year-old missing on Thursday. They said he was last seen Wednesday evening at their home in the 7600 block of Scatterview Lane Southwest in the Rochester area. They believe he was home Thursday morning.

The Find Shane Barton website run by some of Shane's family and friends has the alleged timeline (a very weird timeline that seems to be changing often), as well as lots of very interesting information... seems to be contradictory info in regards to multiple things Shane's wife says...

RECENT UPDATES & DISCREPANCIES:
1f6a9.svg
On 3/11 Danner stated Rachael called him at 1:43pm to let him know she couldn’t find Shane, and asked if he could come home. On 3/22 Rachael’s updated timeline states “she text Danner to ask if he was working. Danner then text Rachael back and confirmed he was at work. She informed him about what was going on and he was going to try to get home as soon as he could.” — no call to Danner was included in this timeline.
1679856951136.png On 3/22 Rachael’s updated timeline states she received a Venmo payment on 3/9 from a friend to pay for her phone bill. According to Rachael’s Venmo history, no payment has been received since 3/1.
1679856957168.png On 3/11 Rachael included in a since deleted Facebook post “I know that you (Shane) are in excruciating pain with your hip, and I feel bad that you don’t have your medicine to help with your pain.” On 3/17, she replied to a Facebook comment saying “The incorrect was that someone said he was on pain medication and he was not at all”.
1679856962740.pngOn 3/11 Rachael stated the phones didn’t work starting the evening of 3/8 because of a billing issue. Rachael also told those who were at her house on 3/10 that Shane and her
were exchanging nudes the night before he allegedly went missing (3/8) when they were both in bed
. If phones didn’t work the evening of 3/8, how were they
sending nudes that night
?
1679856975097.pngIt has been reported by neighbors that large amounts of marijuana was grown on their last property on High Valley Lane (within the last 2 years), and suspect they are doing the same at their current residence on Scatter View.

There is also the official Find Shane Barton FB group where I located this website, where Shane's family, friends, and searchers share information. There are a few other groups specifically for search parties that can be found.
I bolded the weed thing because that could very well be a reason someone goes missing IMO.

Weird is an understatement, IMO. Are they trying to insinuate that his wife is responsible for his disappearance? I hope they can set whatever their obvious differences are aside and focus on what's important, ie: finding Shane. How does any of that help? MOO

The wife's actions and statements have fallen short of a good plan of action IMO. She was saying stuff all over the place, making the timeline ever-so-murky, so people had to band together to lay out the timeline of what she has said has happened vs what they know for sure has happened (by verifiable fact).

She doesn't want their 11 acre property searched by SAR which I find incredibly odd. Detectives combed over parts of it then she was like oh ok that's enough cya!

There is a tragic feud between said wife and Shane's oldest children. I recommend reading through the FB group linked for Finding Shane and you can decide for yourself who seems to be honest and who does not. There's a very interesting post that's the top one on there right now from one of Shane's kids.

I've read through both groups. Don't plan to go back. I'm a no drama llama, lol. ;)

Understandable.

For anyone wondering without wanting to sort through weeks worth of posts, I'll summarize a bit. This is all available on the public Find Shane page that is being ran by his own kids so I am figuring it's ok to post.

**Wife seems to be more worried about arguing with everyone (especially Shane's oldest daughters) on social media, making the timeline less sensical with each comment, and trying to get the sheriff's office to announce she isn't a suspect (yeah... I know... big eye roll) than she is about her husband being totally off the map for 3 weeks.

**As of today, she has been removed from the Find Shane group by Shane's kids, as she made an extremely rude, lowball, inappropriate remark to someone on the page questioning her bc she doesn't make sense (this person is very involved in searching for Oakley Carlson and wife tried to 'joke' in a mean way, tell her to get off FB and go look for Oakley).

**Wife was the one who reported him missing.

**Apparently, the night before: their kids slept in the house, Shane slept in the family RV and the wife slept out with their sick goats? ...

**RB initially posted a few times in the first few days of Shane's disappearance that him being gone could involve "a weird deal". Nobody knows what that means.

**RB also initially asked people not to "steal" her photos of her husband she has posted. Said it was "rude". Wouldn't you want his picture everywhere if you want to find him?!

If you'd like a concise version of what the FB group is trying to navigate, the website is great for that.

Everyone is confused on everything due to all of this, which is extremely unfortunate since all the energy should be focused on him coming home.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
✚ The Thurston County Sheriff’s office called Shane’s disappearance “suspicious”
✚ All vehicles and ATV/UTV’s are accounted for.
✚ Rachael has claimed Shane is wearing a size 11 hiking style Danner boot, black socks, and a non-hooded blue sweatshirt, blue jeans with insulated lining, grey Under Armour hat, a Carhartt style jacket, and could be carrying a .45 firearm (this firearm is missing from the property)
✚ Shane has bad hips and has had a full hip replacement but is said to have been in need of another. This mobility issue created strain when crouching down, making it difficult or impossible to get back up on his own. It has also been stated that Shane wouldn’t be able to make it 100′ easily on his own.
✚ Family had cameras on property but cameras had not been set up yet

A man from the Rochester area has been missing since March 9, and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for information.

Stephen Barton, 54, disappeared from his home in the 7600 block of Scatterview Lane SW, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. His family reported him missing, saying he was last seen the previous evening and was believed to have been home the following morning.

TCSO and Washington State Patrol conducted a search of the property and located Barton’s vehicles, but Barton was nowhere to be found. He’s described as being 5-foot-8 with brown hair and brown eyes.

Sheriff’s Lt. Cameron Simper said Barton’s phone and wallet were left behind, and his disappearance is suspicious in nature. He said detectives are reviewing data from Barton’s cell phone, as well as his wife and son’s phones.

Simper said WSP search dogs have been deployed on the property, as well as flares that detect heat and dive teams to scope out ponds, but nothing has been found. However, Simper said Barton’s property is large and, combined with a neighboring property, is more than 1,000 acres.

Simper said additional search teams with dogs will be deployed soon, and the Sheriff’s Office will release an updated flier once detectives have finished analyzing phone data. Anyone with information regarding Barton’s whereabouts is being asked to contact the dispatch center at 360-704-2740.

Suggestion: Have a loved one go missing, then have someone set up a gossip group comprised of 1000's of people to attack you and your children. Let's see if you say anything in your own defense.

Re: **RB also initially asked people not to "steal" her photos of her husband she has posted. Said it was "rude". Wouldn't you want his picture everywhere if you want to find him?!

There were a handful of posters being shared widely at that point. People were taking her pictures to mock her. Again, let's see you have someone you love missing and then, have strangers come in and take photos -- each of which represents a significant memory, so they can trash them and make fun of you.

Re: She doesn't want their 11 acre property searched by SAR...

Pure fiction. LE carried out a basic search on day one along with an aerial search from Washington State Police.

SAR returned the morning of day three to carry out a number of grid searches. This was WIDELY reported.

SAR and LE returned again last Sunday to carry out a search with air-scent trained dogs.

The wife has been open to every single one of these searches.

I honestly cannot find a neutral position on what is going on in Stephen's case between his wife and kids. I have no idea what the facts are. JMO.

On March 11, the sheriff’s office completed a nine-hour search of the property with 30 people and five dogs. Three days later, on March 14, detectives returned to the property to search buildings and surrounding property. A dive team searched ponds on the property to no avail, according to the sheriff’s office. On April 2, the property was again searched, this time with six “human remains detection dogs” over the course of seven hours.

“Shane’s wife has provided TCSO detectives with Shane’s phone and other digital devices,” the sheriff’s office stated in the release. “She has allowed our detectives to process her phone and adult son’s phone for any useful information. Search warrants have been obtained for phone records and other technology.”

Barton’s wife voluntarily took a polygraph test on April 10 that showed “she was not being deceptive,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Following the wife’s call [March 9], Sheriff’s deputies searched the house and the surrounding property but did not find signs of Barton. Washington State Patrol Aviation also flew over the house to look for heat signatures that may be associated with Barton, but to no avail.

On March 11, the TCSO conducted a nine-hour search using 30 ground searchers, five search dogs, and other search and rescue assets, but remained unsuccessful, according to its social media release.

On March 14, deputies returned to the address to search the house and the surrounding area. Dive team personnel also searched the ponds on the property. Nearly three weeks later, the TCSO held a seven-hour search [April 2], this time using six dogs capable of detecting human remains. ...
