Find Vincent Djie

An additional post from family about finding volunteer SAR Flankers.

Sept 9
For those who are interested, below are the duties of a volunteer SAR Flanker. Note that if you can't join the whole 5 days of search (21-25 Sept) you can join for part of it, just let us know ahead of time which days you can participate.

1. Stay at the motel (search headquarters)
2. Attend morning and evening briefings.
3. Go into the field with a dog handler.
4. Follow the dog handler as they work their K9.
5. Be the safety observer. Keep an eye on the handler to make sure he/she does not get into risky or dangerous terrain accidentally.
6. Handle radio communications if the handler delegates that task to the Flanker.
7. Report status of team when requested or every hour as directed from the IC.
8. Be safe.

Sept 20
We were able to find enough volunteers for the canine search so the search is on schedule to begin tomorrow.
The search runs until Friday, Sept 25.

I'm glad they were able to find volunteers. They said they needed 6 volunteers per dog handler, and that the volunteers needed to be skilled hikers.

Update on the search for Vincent Djie from Vincent's father:

Day 1, Monday, 21 Sep 2020, no search, only doing the administration of Special Use Permit (SUP) at the Mt Rainier National Park Service (NPS) office.

On the second day, 22 Sep 2020, three teams of K9 dogs were deployed in three locations near Vincent's last seen location.

On the 3rd day, Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020, two teams of K9 dogs were deployed in two locations at the lower part of Rampart Ridge. Rain conditions throughout the day. For the safety of the search team, the search was only carried out on trail.

On the 4th day, the rain was getting heavier throughout the day, unable to do a search using the Canines team. Only the ground search team on the Comet Fall trail.

5th day, no search as the weather forecast will rain all day.

11 Oct 2020

While Vincent has still not been found, we have an update from his father regarding the recent search efforts:

Praise the Lord, Vincent's continued search efforts by the JFF team in the second week, from 29 Sep - 4 Oct 2020 have been carried out. The weather was great on this second week of searches. However, Vincent still has not been found yet. This second week of search is a bit constrained by the limited number of dog handler teams available.

Tuesday 29 Sep: two K9 teams
Wednesday Sep 30: one K9 team
Thursday Oct 1st: no search
Friday Oct 2: two K9 teams
Saturday Oct 3: one K9 team
Sunday Oct 4: one K9 team

We will still be in Seattle on our search for our missing son Vincent Djie. We will continue to communicate with the NPS and JFF for alternatives of further search efforts. We would like to thank all the dog handlers and flankers that have joined the searches. Thank you very much for the prayerful support of friends and family during this time and especially the last two weeks of searching.

Update: He still has not been found. There have not been any searches since October due to the weather conditions. His parents hope to continue with searches when the weather allows.
