Gavin, Whall and Gavin’s brother are all caught on CCTV on Dean Street

Whall’s evidence was that he returned home. He was picked up in a lay-by by his girlfriend. When they got home, neither had noticed the Land Rover was missing. Shortly after, police arrived. They were given two keys to the Land Rover.

The fact that he’s following the same route is ‘just a coincidence’. Jones said he went back to Dean St later on to meet up with his brother to talk about getting a solicitor.

The Land Rover keys are a ‘key part’ of the evidence. Suggestions Whall must’ve provided the key to Darren Jones in order for it to be driven. It had his DNA on it. He could’ve hid in the Land Rover and driven it off that morning the prosecution allege.

You can’t start the engine without a key present. It is possible with the right equipment to boost a signal, the defence stated.

Even if signal for key could be boosted, once engine turned off like at quarry, it wouldn’t be possible to turn it back on again without the key. You’d need specialist equipment and access to the car to reprogramme a key.

The judge has now finished summing up the evidence.
