Hi guys,
I wanted to put this out there and ask about ways to at least zero in on a suspect if they haven't already. Here are several ways I thought of to get to the bottom of this and solve this, but it might require tedious work and hard labor. Please forgive me if my ideas are far fetched. For example, anytime a white male in the age range from 30-50 is pulled over ask for DNA sample(They actually did this after BTK left a cereal box with a doll tied up in rope along a popular highway in Kansas). They would tell the drivers that they will not write them a ticket or any other traffic violation if they agreed to get swabbed right then and there. Another way would be examine the video of times square when he made the phone calls and try to find out who each and ever white male in their 30-50's, at least try to find out the identity of ones using a cell phone at that time. Last, would be to put a hidden camera around the area where bodies were dumped and see if killer shows up (It may be a ritual for him to revisit the dump sites). Love to hear what you guys can come up with, maybe it might help LE if someone can come up with something clever. Again, I myself am shooting from the hip on this, so if my thoughts or ideas seem far fetched, forgive me

Pleased to meet you, Mayankoza. :)

I don't think that your ideas are far-fetched at all! I have often wondered about the possibility of positioning hidden cameras at the known dump sites, and one has to wonder whether this has ever been tried by LE (it would be a fairly common-sense thing to try, and naturally the police would not inform the public if the were filming the area secretly). Are there any reports of this having been done, do you know?

The phone calls to Melissa Barthelemy are one of the most frustrating aspects of this case, aren't they? He was right there, making himself known clearly and directly... and then just slipped away, before the police had time to act. I don't think that they neglected to do anything which they could have done, as he would have had to have been on the phone for longer than just a couple of minutes for them to track him down, but it is intensely frustrating all the same! Face recognition software is probably the only chance they would have of tracing him from CCTV footage now, but there is always the hope that this type of software will improve in the years to come and this will become a possibility.

Just from memory (so this might be wrong), I believe that he was using a disposable "cash for minutes" type of phone, so the paper trail would be pretty minimal; nonetheless, you wonder just what information might be available if you followed every possible avenue - the time and place of purchase, perhaps? The make and model of the phone? Given those things, there is an 1000-1 chance that security footage still exists of him making the purchase. Very, very unlikely, but it could be there...

Can you (or anyone else) enlighten us further about these things?

Keep thinking. We'll get him yet!

Edit: I forgot to mention your idea for DNA collection. Do you know whether the killer's DNA (or at least something which is likely to be his) is on file?

A trouble bubble (camera) was set up on OP in plain sight for a while. If LE didn't put some sort of video surveillance in the area just after the remains were found, I've lost all faith in SCPD investigations. I actually lost faith a while ago for many reasons.

With your whole pull over DNA thing....Who in their right mind would do that? I would rather get my license suspended/tickets/etc then have the possibility of the swab getting mixed up and labeled wrong.

Reminds me of this:

I don't think your idea's are far fetched at all either. The only problem I see with them is that so much time has passed that it would be hard to do.

And if they started to pull people over and ask for DNA samples that would cause an up roar with many of people. So many people are all ready convinced that the government shouldn't be allowed to keep your DNA on file. It's a trap shoot.

Other then dressing up as an escort and posting ads online and meeting up the john's I'm out of ideas as to how to catch the guy. Besides with my luck I'd be trying to be a decoy and my john would be a decoy as well and I'd in up in jail for prostitution. lol

What is there to compare the dna samples to? It'd be a huge waste of time, effort and money.

I say prop up a cardboard box with a stick. Tie a string to the stick and then put a piece of cheese under the box. When the LISK goes to get the cheese, pull the string and he'll be trapped under the box. Collect $500 from Crime Stoppers.

One potential method could be...figuring out where the killer might hang out on the internet that has nothing to do with Lisk. I propose the SK is a big fan of true crime. since he is so tech savy do you think he post on message boards? It's been suggested the SK uses utopiaguide and such but what about either sites that he wouldnt feel the need to use a proxy? Is the Killer obsessed with Anne Marie Fahey?

How many people ordered this movie when it came out on dvd in the massapequa/babylon area?

what other forums would the killer frequent where he might post and be a registered user? Stripers the fishing forum has been suggested. Of course the duck hunting forum. The SK also registered the burners to Mickey Mouse. Is he a mickey mouse memorabilia collector? His wife or parents perhaps are big on disney?

does he take the train to work everyday on the LIRR to penn station from massapequa? What I dont understand is...the SK made the calls from manhattan but cant the police ping the calls to the exact location? Dont they have video of the streets but they say they are too crowded...Is the SK walking on the st as he makes the calls or is he in a car? So if he does commute everyday...did he pick up the girls like Maureen and Melissa and Jessica and drive them out to Long Island or did they take the train?

Also the killer was drunk when he called John Terry...if the calls came from Midtown, he's likely drinking at a bar after work so how about checking all the bars around penn station?

Oh my god! This mushroom said he first spotted the body a week and a half before he reported it. That is the most suspicious thing I've ever heard!!

http://nypost.com/2003/11/11/nightmare-on-l-i-e-latest-nude-body-hints-at-serial-slay/

A mushroom hunter yesterday led police to a nude body buried under a tangle of leaves and branches off the Long Island Expressway – not far from a heavily wooded area where the bodies of two nude, headless and handless women were found dumped.

Police, who believe there may be a serial killer at work in the area, said it was too soon to tell if there’s a connection between yesterday’s grisly find in Manorville and the two unsolved decapitation murders – one discovered last July, the other in November 2000.

“At this point there’s no way of knowing if there’s a link,” said Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, commander of the Suffolk homicide squad.

Although the mushroom hunter, who asked to remain anonymous, first spotted the body a week and a half ago, he didn’t tell police about his discovery until yesterday.

He told The Post he was “too terrified,” but finally spoke up because he was “having nightmares.”

He led cops to the corpse in dense woods just west of the Edwards Avenue exit of the LIE, yesterday morning.

Seriously a Mushroom hunter doesn't report seeing a body for a week and a half? They need to go back and talk to that mushroom hunter. Maybe he didnt like the fact that no one found the body dumped with Jessica Taylor so he led the police too it.

"

The mushroom hunter told The Post he thought the victim was a girl “because the feet were small.” He said he also didn’t see any fingers on the body, but thought they may have been buried under the brush. "

I'm pretty sure this body he found is actually a male. Who would ever find a body and leave it in the woods? These Long Islanders!
