"Charles Mumford's body was found lying in an Alleyway in the 100 block of South Butler, near the Stop Light Tavern. A woman spotted him on her way to work, finding him lying there shot to death. Initial investigation showed he was shot 3 times and 45 caliber shells were found at the scene, but no murder weapon was located. When Charles was found, he had no identification on him, but he had $114 in his pocket, so robbery didn't seem to be the motive. His body was taken to Madison Hospital for an autopsy. Many people were questioned but no new information was revealed. Mr Mumford's body was transported to Mills Funeral Home in Kingston, North Carolina. It is possible that this is one of those cases that evidence was lost or destroyed. No other information was made available on this case."

Hello, Charlie Mumford was my grandfather. I never met him because my father was 18 when he was killed. I thank you for writing about my grandfathers murder in hopes that someone will come forward.
